2025 Subreddit Census Results Final Posts (or is it?)

r/

The latest AskLatinAmerica subreddit census took place from May 18th to June 24th, 2025. There were a bit over 1100 unique respondents.

Google visualizations of the results are here.

My own graphs are here (many have been shared in different posts over the last month).

I got a little bored of it after a while but I may come back and see if any other interesting data can be mined from the results. Let me know if there’s anything you want to see! You can even ask for the raw data yourself and go wild making your own visualizations.

I think the irreligiousity is the most skewed compared with not-Reddit (i.e. 70% not religious vs 17% Catholic).

It’s worth keeping that in mind when reading the comments here.

I wonder many “lean left” would be liberals who are ok with gay peoplr and abortion, i guess it would skew the choice a lot

Confirming what I suspected that a lot of the “Mexicans” here really aren’t.

I asked ChatGPT to make a summary of what people replied to the last question (What improvements, if any, would you like to see in the subreddit?). Here it is:

Summary of Suggested Improvements for the Subreddit:

    • Better moderation to reduce trolling, racism, and repeated or low-quality posts.

    • Stricter enforcement on fake flairs and users pretending to be from Latin America.

    • More activities like AMAs with experts (historians, anthropologists, environmentalists), weekly discussion topics, and collaborations with related subreddits.

    • Allow posts and comments in Spanish and Portuguese, ideally with translations.

    • Reduce American centrism and less interference from non-Latin Americans posing as locals.

    • Improve FAQ and automated moderation tools to handle common issues (e.g., race-related questions, trolling).

    • Encourage more diverse participation, beyond the dominant Brazilian, Mexican, and Argentine voices.

    • Increase community engagement with themed days, polls, and cultural exchange events.

    • More user flair moderation to avoid misuse of country tags.

    • Requests for less sensitivity on controversial topics to foster open but respectful discussions.

    • Some users want harsher bans on trolls and racists, others ask to be more welcoming and less biased politically.

    • Suggestions to add flairs indicating “born in / living in” to clarify user background.

    • Calls for better handling of questions focusing too much on race or repetitive themes.
