I’ve never told anyone this. But 3 years ago I was on my second week of my new job.
A customer comes to my till with about 15 different electrical appliances and tells me they’re in a rush as their son is off to UNI. I’ve explained it’s only my second week and 4th shift but I’ll get them through as quickly as I can.
After scanning two items the dad threw the kettle at me and said “hurry up, quickly” I said sorry and scanned it twice as I was panicking. They didn’t notice.
I then had to take a security tag off a TV, they told me I was too slow and asked for a manager who was on a break. The dad said to his wife “these places need to hire special people, we can on the wrong day” so I scanned the TV twice. I then scanned a microwave twice.
I didn’t do this to overcharge them. I did this to waste their time. For any items that needs to be removed needs to be done by a manager. Which I was hoping they’ll see before they paid.
They didn’t. I was hoping they’ll see by the time they leave and come back. They didn’t.
They didn’t even take the receipt.
But, to this day. I still feel guilty about this.

They deserved it
A THOUSAND £!!!!
😵💫 Do you know how verging on irresponsible it is not to take the receipt when paying for electrical appliances!
You should have taken the items they paid for home
Based on the rush, perhaps it was a stolen credit card and they wanted to get the charge completed before the owner realized it was missing?
You don’t need the receipt or care about overcharging if all you are thinking about is to make a fast getaway.
You should’ve kept the receipt and walked out with a free TV and microwave
every retail worker secretly dreams of pulling a move like this so you’re basically a legend
If the card was stolen the guy who’s card it was wouldn’t get charged for it. That’s the banks problem, it’s why you should always use a CC rather than a DC. Besides its a year later I wouldn’t worry about it, if it was the person’s card and they didn’t notice the price or error they obviously canaffird it.
Come on team. This story didn’t happen. This account was literally opened four hours ago and there are five wild stories they’ve listen in various subs during that time.
Everyone needs to stop wasting what little precious time we DO have in our lives, on bull like this.
For instance right now there are 71 upvotes on the post. It should be a downvote every single time.
You did it on purpose? That says a lot about you.
These people were scamming a credit card. They needed you to move quickly before I got locked out.
They must be “stupid rich”.
If they hadn’t been so rude and rushed you, you wouldn’t have made the mistake. It sounds like they were charged a karma tax and it was well deserved. They must have been used to things like that.
It was probably stolen, or they were too rich and/or stupid to care.
The man that owned the grain store in the next town over from where I grew up always had a dust broom on the counter. He added it to almost every bill he totaled up. Probably sold that broom 3,000 times a year. 90% of the people would miss it, and only 1 ever demanded to take the broom they just paid for, and they didn’t even go get a new one.
