Hi Reddit! I’m headed out of town to spend some time with my dad (74M) for a few days while my mom (69F) is on a trip. Their 50th wedding anniversary will be this October, and it got me thinking that this might be a great time to interview him about their relationship and start prepping for a cute 50th present. I could interview my mom at a different time and maybe mash them up into a video or a book or something?
Not sure what form it would take, but I see all these “questions to ask your parents” card decks in my insta. Seems like they’re all based on both of them together though. The questions set up answers where they remember things differently and laugh, or play off each others’ reactions, etc, so it’s been hard to try to reformat those to individual interview questions.
I wondered, has anyone seen or come across a set of questions like this that would be appropriate for this situation? They’re still adorably happy, but sunsetting, so it’s not hard to get them to talk about each other and the earlier days of their lives. If I get a good set of questions I could ask both of them I’m thinking I could use these three days with my dad to set up a super cute and memorable 50th present.
They raised two children, myself (40F), and my brother, (44M). They have two grandchildren by my brother (14M and 11M). My brother’s first wife (42F) is still a dear part of our family, as is his second, (35F). Since we moved out, their dogs and their house (2 painstakingly maintained acres near Lake Erie) have been their life.
Thanks for reading. If you haven’t seen a deck like this, any suggestions to help me build my own set of questions I could ask them?
TL;DR! anybody know of a deck of questions available to ask married parents individually to make a cute 50th anniversary video/book? Or have a question or two to recommend?
