For over a year, an elderly women in this family has been taking sleeping pills nonstop (multiple times a night and in the day) and no one in the family did anything about it.
Her condition has been getting worse: she’s confused about what day it is, stopped showering, and started peeing herself. Instead of getting her proper help, the family suddenly decided to detox her at home, with no medical supervision.
Now she’s vomiting/nausea, barely making sense, and gettign disoriented sometimes. When someone tries to say this is serious, they just dismiss it, making it seem like a mental illness or that it is not a drug addiction (because the pills were prescribed by a doctor)
They took her to some doctor who said she’s “fine,” but I don’t know how thorough that was. Nothing’s improved, and it’s clear she needs real medical care. The father of the grandma is calling around to get advice but after 2 years of the lady abusing pills and them all letting it happen (but he is not admitting it’s a drug promblen or even mentioning rehab).
I’m not from the state and live on the south of the country so I have no idea what to do. Most are just choosing to ignore it or saying it’s a family decision that needs to be kept private.
What steps can I take, do I call police? I don’t have any proof.

You could call Adult Protective Services. They have the authority to truly help her.
I’m sorry for your situation, this is wild.
Wait, the father of the grandma? So she’s 80, how old is he?
NAL. Please call 911 AND adult protection services. A detox without medical aid is already insanely dangerous for able bodied adults
