Long story short, we’ve lived in our home for 11 years and last year our neighbors moved and their house torn down and a new one built. The new house is now the only two story house on the block.
My partner and I have are still young and adventurous and no we aren’t having monkey sex in the pool every other day but we do enjoy our bodies and our privacy. We’ve got a nice and tall vinyl fence and have never had any issues.
Apparently the new neighbors decided that their child’s(9m) room would be one of the upstairs rooms facing our yard. We met once they finally moved in and they’re a cool ass couple. I was excited to have some new friends in the neighborhood.
Now, months later, the dude knocked on the door kinda irate and I wasn’t sure what coulda happened.
Yada yada yada, he doesn’t want his kid “seeing that shit” and while I whole heartedly agree this is my private property and I sure a fuck didn’t force him to build a two story house or choose his kid’s room location.
I’m somewhat torn cuz I absolutely am not trying to do or show anything to a kid but also pissed that my private life is now being completely altered by things completely out of my control.
My partner and I are choosing our moments differently because we aren’t trying to “force our lifestyle” on a child but I refuse to live a completely different lifestyle that I don’t choose because someone needed a two story house next to mine.

NTA your neighbor should move his kids room or put some kind of opaque glass covering on his window(s) faving your pool to keep him from seeing you. You have a reasonable expectation of privacy in your own fenced in yard and your neighbors kid watching you is their problem to deal with not yours. Thats like the kid peeking into your windows through cracks in the blinds and the parents being mad that he saw something he wasn’t supposed to.
NTA- respectfully, it’s your home, your property, your body, your wife. Suggest the child move to a room downstairs, otherwise, contact your lawyer and see what the legal ramifications of this are. Best of luck.

You are getting a lot of bad advice. Be careful with it because they could hem you up legally…if your backyard is visible from your neighbor’s house or property, you could be arrested for indecent exposure and a lot worse if they arrest you for exposing yourself to a minor.

I understand why you’re upset, but now that a kid can plainly see into your back yard, you can’t be naked where a kid can now see. That’s just an obvious no no for obvious reasons.

So just to be clear – are you having sex outside or are you just walking around naked? What you’ve written kind of implies that you are having sex outside in your backyard – just not everyday.

I had a similar problem many years ago. My neighbor and I both bought camps on a lake at the same time. There was 90 feet of trees, mostly on his property between our houses.
He then decided to put up a garage with an apartment above it between his house and ours. I begged him to leave some of the trees as a privacy buffer. His response was “You can’t tell me what to do with my property”
OK, fine.
We then decided to take our camp and turn it into a full season home. Back then our town was pretty lax in the permitting process, like crayon on a napkin plans lax. Originally we were going to have a loft as the top floor, with knee walls instead of 8 or 9 foot full walls. But my contractor convinced us to build it as a full bedroom. So we did.
A couple of years later, a town employee noticed it and then we were told that 3 full stories were not allowed in our town, only 2.5 stories were allowed. (They couldn’t give me the definition of a half story by the way) So we needed to get a variance for our third floor, which was our master bedroom suite. It looked directly down at my neighbor’s apartment.
So this guy, had the audacity to write a letter to the town, saying that our third floor “Interfered with his” right to privacy ” His letter was read out loud at the hearing for our variance.
I had before and after pictures showing how he cut all the trees, right to the property line. Other people at the hearing actually laughed out loud when his letter was read and they all applauded when we were granted our variance.

Can you do bamboo or some sort of tall barrier plant?
Depending on your local laws you could be charged with indecent exposure even if you are “exposing” on private property.
