So I work for my county’s sheriffs office as a shift supervisor in dispatch. Last Thursday morning our k9 on duty and their handler came into dispatch which is something they normally do. Was playing fetch with the dog and out of nowhere it attacked me and I had to go the ER.
Now workers comp and our hr and risk department are wanting me to return to work immediately on light duty. Problem is in dispatch there is no light duty whether answering phones or working the radio it all requires two hands and typing which I cannot currently do. I can’t even hold a t shirt in me left which is also my dominant hand. They’re not allowing me time off and are trying to give me 2/3s my pay and make me burn my own sick hours for the time I have been so far which is 2 shifts so 24 hours.
Do I have any grounds to stand on to sue the county which I has no intentions of doing in the first place but them wanting me to drive with one hand to work and read training manuals for 12 hours instead of letting me do it at home and heal completely has me changing my mind.
Any advice on how you would handle this greatly appreciated.
