My(31f) brother(26m) got married a few months ago and I swear my mom was a nightmare…
For some background My bro and his wife are highschool sweethearts got together at 14/15. When she turned 16 she moved into my parents house after her stepmom got physical with her and she’s been part of the family ever since. She sees my mom as her mom so that’s why she got away with a lot of this stuff.
My mom and I were talking about wedding planning
Mom: Well you know our wedding…
Me: Uuh excuse me?
Mom: I mean their wedding
Me: Yea exactly..
Brother did a dance with my mom and the bride got emotional and had stepped away. She didn’t end up doing a father daughter dance because her dad is elderly and left right after dinner. He initially wasn’t going to come because he had fallen ill. I later found out that my mom had pick the son/mom song and it was the song the bride had wanted to use for her dance and my mom told her no cuz that’s her song. Even though the ORIGINAL song is about a father and daughter. When they told me this I was like why TF didn’t you guys tell me I would have straight up fist fought my mom in your honor like what?! I knew my mom was crazy but damn that wedding really did bring out a nastier side of her.
My brother did have to put his foot down for a lot of things but she also weasled her way into some others. It honestly embarrassing to think about

Aww jeez. You’ve got a live one on your hands. My advice would be to stand by your SIL’s side and help to protect her from your mom. I see a huge “I deserve to be in the delivery room to see my grandchild come out of your hoo-ha” fit coming on.

My mum did things like this when my brother got married and roped me in without letting me know she didn’t have permission from my SIL. Once I found out my brother and I both put her in her place so fast. I love my mum but I will absolutely fight her on behalf of my SIL if I need to. I don’t know what it is about older women once their son has a girl to bring home that makes their brains switch like that. Meanwhile it wouldn’t even cross her mind to interfere in my relationship with my husband
Keep being an ally to your brother and SIL. You’re mature enough to see through her behavior and stand up to her. They need you to keep guiding them. You’re a good big sis!
