I’ve always wondered which podcasts are actually popular in the US. For me, I love If Books Could Kill, Let’s Read, The Shawn Ryan Show, and Jocko Podcast.
I also sometimes listen to Behind the Bastards and Anti-Hero.
What are y’all’s favorites?

I adore Memory Palace. Short 5-12 minute true stories, beautifully told that will send you into a good 30 minute Google rabbit hole afterwards.
I don’t think anything I like is that popular. Books Unbound, Revelatorium with Katherout, That Desi Spark/The Woke Desi, Cup of Jasmien, Once Upon a Time…At Bennington College
Hardcore History, Bootleg Football, and The Solid Verbal are my main 3 right now
I generally listen to Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend and Philly sports podcasts. Sometimes I’ll listen to WTF with Marc Maron if the guest is interesting. Same with Broken Record.
The Omnibus, co hosted by Jeopardys Ken Jennings

Criminal (true crime journalistic)
History That Doesn’t Suck, The Paranormal Podcast, The Night Owl: True Ghost Stories, Combat Story, and Preble Hall to name a few.
Last podcast on the left and their associated podcasts! LPOTL is my fave tho! True crime, weird news, weird dudes and great research!
Yacht or Nyacht. It’s silly but the camaraderie and the shared love of a subgenre of music makes it superb. Also, they take their debates over whether a song is or isn’t yacht rock SO seriously, and it’s a great form of escapism to hear people get passionate about something so unimportant.
PKA
Freakonomics will forever be one of my favorite podcasts. They always talk about interesting topics, sprinkle in some economics, and have extremely well educated and well qualified guests. That and The Ringer Fantasy Football Show, but it’s a bit more niche and just a few guys talking for an hour.
I am a baseball fan and I adore Effectively Wild from Fangraphs with hosts Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley. As a baseball fan I listen to many baseball podcasts like Five and Dive as well as podcasts covering my favorite team. I used to listen to many more podcasts like Radiolab, This American Life, 99% Invisible, various NPR shows and podcasts. Recently I started downloading The Rest is History from the BBC.

I miss Bodega Boys. The only podcast I would actually listen to from start to finish. Otherwise I just find clips on YouTube.
I’m currently running through all of Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast. If you can get over his voice it’s a really great show. I also listen to 20,000 Hertz and The Constant: A History of Getting Things Wrong.
I listen to more British podcasts than anything.
I listen to alternative Game of Thrones stories.
Down These Mean Streets – Old Time Radio Detective Shows
The Weirdest Thing I Learned This Week!
The Dating Detectives, Conspiracy Theories, Into the Dark, Lore
Triviality and Decoder Ring (both of which I appeared on in 2024, which was not on my bingo card…)

Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend
The Bible for Normal People (PhD in ancient Near Eastern languages and civilizations explains the Old Testament in its original contexts)

Conan needs a Friend, No such thing as a Fish (comedy trivia), Make Me Smart from Marketplace, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me
Ezra Klein, Conan O’Brien, Time Crisis, Generation Why, This American Life, Heavyweight, Revisionist History, bald Move
Radiolab!
Not Another D&D Podcast. I had to stop listening to it on the train to work because it was making me start laughing in public and looking like a lunatic.
None.
Morning Somewhere
Old Gods of Appalachia
Red Web depending on the topic.
Swindled. It’s a true crime podcast that focuses on white collar crime and corporate greed cases. The show is excellent. I don’t think there is a single episode that isn’t good. Most of the episodes will make you mad because the crimes in many cases lead to deaths and no one is ever punished. Or if they are it’s a slap on the wrist because they are wealthy crooks.
Small Town Murder. It’s true crime stories in small towns told by comedians. I love true crime stories, but they can be a real downer. These guys tell the story, but they’re comedians, so it’s funny how they tell it, but they never denigrate or insult the victims or their families. It’s like getting my dark crime fix while laughing out loud.
If Books Could Kill, Behind the Bastards, sometimes 16th Minute of Fame.
I like “radiolab,” “this American life,” “wait wait don’t tell me,” “mission to zyxx.”
You’re Wrong About is amazing, especially if you’re of a certain kind of nerdy, progressive, culture-obsessed mindset.
Let’s Read is my go-to in the car. I actually save episodes for long drives.
Matt and Shane
I like History That Doesn’t Suck
Timesuck, MeatEater, Middle of Somewhere, and A Hotdog is a Sandwich
History of English. It’s the history of the English Language.
Revolutions. The story of different revolutions in history.
Hardcore History. Mostly military history.
If you can’t tell, I like history.
It a huge podcast guy but I like Conan O’Brien’s show and OBDM which is a fun high strangeness/conspiracy show.
The main American podcast i listen to is bow and blade and Dagoth ur Lovecraft.
I listen to 2 British short story podcasts, horror bables, and classic ghost stories.
I drive 90 min twice a week so it’s good to find podcast with that run time.
