Behaving as a civilized person isn’t a high bar to clear.

Well they’re about half the people you meet.

    they don’t.

they don’t have to “appeal” to anyone.

they can be weird and creepy if they want to be. it’s just that people, rightfully, tend to react to that shit poorly. nobody likes creeps.

they can also just not be weird and/or creepy. it’s not like it’s hard.

one can be not trying to appeal to someone, and still not be weird/creepy. people do that every single day, lol.

The short, and crude answer, is because the guys want to get laid. The girls do, too, but not by some creep.

Appeal or be decent? the pressure men feel to do the GOOD thing is unfortune because its the bad mens fault. Enough bad has happened in the world by a certain group to another certain group for people to shame others into doing the right thing depsite how basic it is. For me I think about it sometimes. If i wanna call a woman pretty all i do is say “hey youre really pretty” thats not weird and if she finds it weird SHES WEIRD BECAUSE IT WAS JUST A COMPLIMENT. If i called her sexy its still not weird because its just a compliment “sexy” is just provocative so it seems bad

Basic societal standards. Don’t meet standards or set norms, then people judge. Both men and women do it.

Though with women, a man being creepy can also be dangerous = stalking, harassment, etc. So how women view men is talked about more.

    …..

Why do men care? Make efforts to not be seen this way?

Because most people don’t like feeling abnormal. They like to fit norms. So being viewed as odd, creepy, etc can be uncomfortable. So they take effort to fit in.

Because they have basic empathy for 50% of the population and understand why coming off as creepy can be scary. So they make effort not to.

Because they are attracted to women. So how women view them feels important. They want to be appealing, to have that assurance that they’re doing good enough.

    Etc etc etc

that’s only if you’re unattractive and/or bad social skills. It’s not just guys, even though im a girl I need to try not to be creepy bc i am both unattractive & have bad social skills

As a bisexual woman not typically attracted to a man who’s married to a man, what social setting are you talking about?
