Do your banks have drive-thrus with pneumatic tubes?

r/

This was a thing when I was growing up, and even my local bank and credit union have them now. But I was watching Rick and Morty and Rick makes a comment about pneumatic tubes “like banks used to use in the 70s.”

So are these still in use through much of the US, or just in the bubble I’m in?

Yeah those are still super common, at least in my area.

They still exist where I live. It’s the only way to complete a transaction if you’re using the drive-thru.

My local US Bank still has them at two locations here. 5/3rd bank has them too

Yeah, as so do our pharmacies

They’re around here and there where I’m at, but when I was a kid in the 80s it seemed like literally every bank had them.

I met a guy who made those, but not just for banks. He didn’t think that the industry had much of a future.

  7. Hoosier_Jedi Avatar

Yeah, I know a few banks that have those.

The last of these near me were removed over the last few years at least at the banks I go to. I hadn’t seen anyone actually use it for longer. The lights were usually red.

Some locations have them but they’re far from universal.

Two banks near me have them still. I cannot tell you the last time I saw somebody use them.

They are even inside . No more face to face with a teller. Makes it real hard to rob a bank that way.

No but my pharmacy does 🙂

  13. DOMSdeluise Avatar

yeah I think so? I don’t use the drive through though, easier to go in.

    Very common

  15. JanaKaySTL Avatar

Every bank around here has them.

  16. Fappy_as_a_Clam Avatar

    Still in use around me

  17. Nodeal_reddit Avatar

Yes. Not many people use the teller drive-through though.

Only the older banks. And I don’t know of any that still use them in my area of the state.

Not in Manhattan. They might have a few around the outer boroughs, though.

My pharmacy has one! But yeah, bank tubes are still really common.

  21. Subterranean44 Avatar

Yes. Our pharmacy and Costco still do. The bank that had the last remaining one burned down though.

  22. porcelainvacation Avatar

Im so old I remember when Costco used them to send paper checks from the register to the back

  23. Astute_Primate Avatar

I’ve never seen a bank with a drive up teller that didn’t have pneumatic tubes

  24. triblogcarol Avatar

No, bank of America near me doesn’t use them . They have drive up ATMs where you can deposit or withdraw cash. I personally wouldn’t trust depositing large cash amount at an ATM.

You have to go inside if you want to interact with a human.

  25. SonoranRoadRunner Avatar

I haven’t seen one in years

  26. cschoonmaker Avatar

Nope not in California anymore. They used to be at every bank. They’ve all been replaced by ATM’s now.

  27. Federal-Employee-545 Avatar

Yes! Some pharmacies have them as well.

Our bank is now walk in only. It used to have them. CVS and Walgreens still do for prescriptions.
