I grew up in a remote Scottish village, survived the care system and surpassed low expectations for my future – AMA

In the 1990s I was targeted by an inexperienced department of social care and referred to educational psychologists. This was due to my withdrawal from learning and engaging with other children at school. What followed was a near decade-long association with the care system in Scotland that involved numerous inappropriate applications of solutions or support, misdiagnosis: and the prediction that I’d require care or supported living for the rest of my life.

I am now in my 30s, married and a homeowner with a lucrative career and require no support or association with the social care system.

I also no longer meet the criteria as an adult for a series of “speculative” diagnosis made by inexperienced parties in the 1990s.
