I decided to book for a spay for my cat in this small vet office in Queen’s. They had dodgy reviews and all of them mentioned the very unprofessional receptionist and behavior but I needed to take my cat in asap. They told me I need to pay online and then take her in, I accidentally put her under neuter which was $375. They called me after an hour saying I made a mistake and should have put spay but I can still come in the next day.
I went in the next day and they told me spay was $450, no big deal I will pay the difference. I paid for the additional exam and paid $43 that day for the exam. They told me come back Tuesday for the surgery.
Today I went in, surgery was fine. Before leaving she told me I needed to pay the difference which was $75 and I did. I have every single receipt of payment. I paid $493 in total.
I get home and get a phone call from the receptionist saying I needed to pay the $450 and send my card information and I was like what are you talking about? I said I can come in and they said no I needed to send it now. I texted the number they reached out with all of my receipts and asked for clarification.
They responded extremely unprofessionally saying I only paid for neuter which was $375 and I was a scammer. I then sent my receipt that said Spay and had the whole breakdown and I sent all my bank information that shows I paid $493. They kept saying I’m a scammer and a bad person for trying to scam a vet and they were taking me to court.
I asked multiple times for them to clarify they were trying to charge me $900 and they wouldn’t respond to that. Just kept calling me names and saying they have me on camera.
I have all text screenshots, receipts and bank statements showing I paid everything and at the vet everything was completely fine!
Am I in the wrong? Am I screwed? I’m a broke college student so I’m extremely upset. I can provide said screenshots on here too

If you have all the proof that you paid, then I wouldn’t worry about it. Let them take you to court and you will be able to prove them wrong.
This seems sketchy. I haven’t been to a vet clinic that required me to pay before services/procedures. I’ve heard of some places making you put down a deposit to get on their schedule. I’ve never encountered that.
But if they made you pay and gave you receipts of everything, it sounds like someone is trying to (or has) taken money under the table and trying to double charge you to cover themselves. That’s my sneaking suspicion anyway.
I would go in and talk to them. It sounds like someone in the office is scamming customers, that’s why they wanted you to pay immediately and didn’t want you to come back in.
