I lied when i was a kid and im regretting it now that im old.

r/

Ok so back when i was a kid, i thought glasses were really cool. Then, my sibs got their reading glasses and i got jealous. So after some time, i told my mom that i feel like my sight is getting a bit blurry. Since bad eye sight kind of runs in the family, she got me checked out. My eyes weren’t really bad. But i lied when the doctor asked me to read vision chart. Not much but enough for the doctor to prescribe me with a “low-grade” glasses. For a few years, I’m happy im sporting a glasses. But now that im old, im regretting it. Now i know how foolish I’ve been. I want to get my old eye sight back. But lasik is so damn expensive.

I know theres contacts. But i cant wear them. 1st, im not comfortable in them. 2nd, Im not responsible enough to be able to wear them and 3rd, my work environment is so dusty its quite hazardous.

PS: to the kids who’ll read this, please just wear an eye glasses with no grade. Dont think that its stupid. I tell you, its dumber to wreck your eye sight for “fashion”. Just wear a damn non-prescription glasses. dont mind what other people think. You can wear whatever makes you happy. Just make sure it doesnt affect you and your health negatively nor hurt others physically.

I did the opposite. When I started needing glasses I was deemed nerdy/dorky and just stopped wearing them and told people I got contacts šŸ˜‚
I’d be sitting in class squinting cause I couldn’t read shit.
So stupid. I eventually got over it and just put them on till I was old enough to get contacts myself

I did the same thing in like 4th grade! Then I decided I didn’t like them so stopped wearing them for a bit. Now I’m older and my vision isn’t TERRIBLE. But I need glasses to make things crisp.

I pretended I had blackouts when I was about 12,I don’t know why? To get attention?

  4. Healthy-Banana-426 Avatar

I did the same but the optician said they were fine after I read the letters wrong šŸ˜‘šŸ¤£

I tried this as a kid because I thought I wanted glasses – vision was fine. Great, even. People running the tests didn’t fall for my clever ruse, alas.

Jokes on them, though, I slowly went goddamn near blind as an adult so now I need them anyway LOL. Or maybe the joke is just on me.

Look into improving your eyesight naturally by Dr Bates and a bunch of other people probably written much better ones go on YouTube and look up the exercises that you can do to make your eyes better first thing you do is go without your glasses when you don’t need them and embrace the blur and then you look at things far away and blink your eyes and relax your entire eye area basically if you didn’t get the ocular something or other to totally relax your vision will improve you kind of did the opposite when you were a kid and got glasses that you didn’t need yes

If it makes you feel any better, your eyesight degrades as you age so it’s not certain that kid you is actually at fault

I thought glasses were cool too. My dad wore them, then my little brother. I tried theirs on, it was terrible. But then I ended up needing them anyway. It might have been inevitable for you tooĀ

Every time I see people lie about needing glasses it’s so weird to me. Seems like they are one of the few ā€œsocially acceptable medical aidsā€. Same with (designer) canes. It’s a medical device. I legally can’t drive without my glasses. It’s just weird to me. No one pretends to use a hearing aid/ wheelchair/ ng tube for fashion.

I was actually the opposite as a kid šŸ˜‚ I needed glasses, but I didn’t like the way they looked on me, so I avoided them until I was older and HAD to get them. So now my eyesight is horrible, and I know it wouldn’t be this bad if I had just gotten them when I needed them.

There’s little use in regretting that. You have learned and you know why it is wrong. You matured, that is your penance and you have fulfilled it

Several years ago I picked up a pair of glasses at Walgreens because I too wanted glasses. They had a slight magnification to them, but I was hell bent on wearing them because I looked so cute. Walked outside to get in my car, missed the curb and broke my arm in 2 places. Never told anyone the real reason I fell…

I did something similar when I was around 9 or 10. A few members of my extended family have glasses and I thought having them meant you were smart and well read. I faked the exam by pretending I was struggling to read the charts, or my reading them incorrectly. I’m surprised the optometrist didn’t see through my terrible acting.

I got glasses, wore them a little bit then stopped. I eventually told my mum the truth, 20+ years later, she still brings it up sometimes.

I got glasses when I was 9. I wore contacts for a couple of years, but my eyes are so dry now that I’m older, and I won’t chance it. I know 1 person who was able to get medicaid to cover lasik somehow… and I know someone who never took out their contacts for over 4 years and nearly lost their fucking eyes.

    OP, how old are you?

I’ve been wearing glasses since 4th grade. After I turned 40, my eyes quickly got worse. I had to switch to bifocal/progressive. Even for my prescription sunglasses.

As you age, the lens gets less flexible and you need glasses.

I do daily contacts because they are super comfortable. They are much thinner and I don’t have worry about keeping them in a container. End of the day you just toss them and put new one in the next day

Omg I failed an eye test in kindergarten because I wanted to have them soooo bad but I wasn’t smart enough to go for a low prescription lmao
I needed them for real in third grade and I just want them to stop changing the prescription by .0001 every year so I can wear my old pairs haha

My near-sightedness was bad enough I got glasses but once I realized it was only when I was reading too long too closely, I stopped putting things near my face to read. I still can’t see perfect from afar but I’m nowhere near needing glasses unless I need to read from hellllla far away with small letters. Now that we have phones it’s kinda hard but at least my eyes recover from it.

I did the same thing, and my vision is pretty awful now, I can barely see a foot in front of me without glasses/contacts.

My mom had a friend whose daughter was blind in one eye, but they didn’t know for many years because she would “cheat” on her eye exam and peek around the blinder they held up over her good eye. Kids are irrational and good doctors need to take that into account to make sure they give them the appropriate medical care, even if the kid is lying about some part of their condition for whatever dumb kid logic reason.

Wearing glasses you don’t need doesn’t ruin your eyesight.

  22. Flimsy_Custard7277 Avatar

I did the same thing!! I thought glasses were cool for some reason and I lied on my eye test to get them, and destroyed my vision in the processĀ

Honestly, you were just a kid being silly, it happens. Glasses for ā€œfashionā€ were harmless at the time, and now you know better. If LASIK isn’t an option, you could try prescription-free glasses for daily wear or just embrace your current vision safely. The lesson you’re sharing for kids is spot on!

I had decent eye sight but when I hit puberty, I was reading a lot, and noticed I couldn’t read the chalkboard anymore without squinting.

I go to the eye doctor and get ā€œlow gradeā€ glasses prescribed.

In the ensuing years whenever girls flirted with me they’d try on my glasses and then accuse me of having vanity glasses. I’d explain they are a weak prescription but blurry is blurry. If a sign is out of focus by a little or a lot, what is the difference? In the end the glasses wearer can’t read it.

  25. theycalledherangel Avatar

I did the same thing, so now when I go in for eye exams, I have to explain why my prescription is so low 😩

Wearing glasses when you don’t need glasses won’t make you need them with time…

If you need lasik now to get your old eyesight back it’s because you got older and you actually need glasses now. If you hadn’t gotten them when you were younger you’d still need them now as glasses do not change the structure of a person’s eyes…
