just overthinking or i really need to get a psychiatrist

r/

What do you guys usually do when you’re super overstimulated? Like, I just end up zoning out whenever it happens—kinda like right now, ugh.

My brain’s all over the place… stressing about schoolwork, then also thinking about my partner, and I feel like I don’t give her enough attention anymore and i always feel like she’s gonna give up on me and then leave it kind of happened recently where she wanted to leave me just because of a misunderstanding she didn’t want to fix it she just wanted to leave but she apologized and then we made up. Idk, it’s just too much. Anyway, just needed to rant.

So what do you usually do when you’re in the same situation?

I close my eyes and take a moment to breathe and relax and I tell myself that focusing on everything at once usually results in very little progress then I open my eyes and pick one thing to work and focus on and try to cut out other thoughts until I’m done.

i usually take a moment and think that i’ll take care of all my problems one by one, not all togheter, for example, you talked about school and partner, talk abt what you feel w ur partner and when things are clear between you two you’ll have a clear mind to think about school

It’s the dang phone unfortunately. But I didn’t start actively finding healthier habits until after my wife left me cuz I was zoning out too much in the relationship. It could be a variety of things, but how much is your screen time across all devices?

Friend, it never hurts to consult with a doctor.

If you feel like you would benefit from seeing if your symptoms are something more and medication might help you see a pyschiatrist. I personally have one and thought the issues I had were inherently me even if I could rationally know that sometimes they weren’t.

Honestly, very mildly from your post, you could have ADHD speaking on the zoning out when overstimulated. Do you also feel stuck in one spot for a long time, even if you know you have things like chores to do? Or do you feel like something has only been 5 minutes, but instead, it’s been 50 minutes?

Just remember we’re all on a sphere rotating at 1,000 mph through space, nobody knows for sure why we’re here or if there’s an afterlife, so nothing really matters.  I find this comforting when I’m stuck in my own head and worrying about day-to-day bullshit.  Just try to have fun and do good, nothing else really matters.

try a psychologist before a psychiatrist. in cognitive behavioral therapy you can learn all kinds of coping skills before immediately jumping to medication – meds are often a bandaid solution for a deeper issue

Practice mindfulness. Try not to over pathologise at this stage. There are things you can do to manage how you’re feeling. Look up grounding skills, sleep hygiene, mindfulness. You need to try and communicate with your partner.

This doesn’t sound like the role of a psychiatrist but if anything you would probably benefit from therapy to speak to someone impartially and think about what’s underpinning these feelings.

ADHD? If so it can be treated effectively with medicines.

See a doctor sooner, rather than later. Many people have this misconception that you have to be at your lowest low in order to get therapy.

It’s better to get the tools and support you need before you endure more difficulties. I know it would have saved me a lot of hell to have a therapist earlier on.

Trust your instincts. They are telling you to get help.

Maybe not a psych yet— definitely a therapist.
Generally psychiatrists don’t do therapy- at least in my state. They prescribe MH meds though.
