During the summer the pond in my garden almost ran dry. There’s frogs and fish in there but because of the hosepipe ban here in Hampshire so I didn’t too up the pond using my garden hose. Meanwhile, I’ve just learned there’s someone in the next county who’s been filling his garden lake using water trucked in from Hampshire! https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cq5jg9vy1n0o
Should you be allowed to order a tanker to fill up your garden lake during a hosepipe ban?

The difference is they’re a billionaire so the same rules don’t apply to them.
There are various exceptions to a hose pipe ban. Animal welfare is one such exception so going forwards know that you are able to use a hosepipe to fill your pond.
From the list of exemptions for the 2025 Hampshire hosepipe ban.

All hosepipe bans are ridiculous in how they’re set up not allowed to use a hose to wash your car unless car washing is your business then it’s allowed…why is it suddenly using less water if I’ve paid someone to wash my car vs doing it myself?!
Don’t blame the billionaire blame the water company that allows their water to be purchased during a drought.
Get some water butts.
Hosepipes are banned but there is nothing to stop you carrying buckets of water.
No, obviously not. For interest Thames Water leak 570.4 million litres per day.

Just bury the pipe in the ground, it’s no longer a hosepipe it’s a pipe.
An argument for saving the wildlife in it I guess, although hosepipe bans are really a token effort anyway, I doubt it is that crucial.
You have an exemption for filling a pond used for animals,
You were willing to potentially kill all your fish and frogs because the government said you can’t use the water you pay for ??
What am I missing here….
You’re an idiot.. look up exemption. I own a pond and mine doesn’t go dry in the summer… Because of exemptions..
Edit. I’m sorry for using the word idiot. But the fact this post exists when you have Google, chatGPT, copilot, many other AI search tools… Why did you not use one of them before posting that you’re not bright enough to look and then complain.
Their argument is that it’s commercial sale therefore it’s paid for so it’s ok. The tankers will be filling up using a stand pipe with a meter fitted (or they’re breaking the law).
My argument is that I have a water meter so I took pay for each litre they supply. Why can’t I wash my car with a hose pipe then?
The whole hosepipe ban thing isn’t about saving water (they can fix leaks for that), it’s about trying to get people to use less generally while preparing them for more price rises to cover all the increased costs of management bonuses.
You guys act like using the hose will instantly trigger police at your door just use the thing
You also have an exemption to the hosepipe ban if you have a disabled blue badge.
I in no way encourage this.
Legally, you can abstract upto 20m^3 of surface or ground water per day without a licence. ^(If you intend to abstract groundwater, even for less than 20 cubic metres a day, you may need a groundwater investigation consent to ensure the abstraction is sustainable and does not harm the aquifer)
What do golf courses do?
I don’t like the term hosepipe ban. It misleads people.
You can fill up your pond with the hosepipe without issue. It’s not banned to do that.
Apparently I’m immune to the hosepipe ban, because I’m disabled (no I don’t understand why either), so when her butt ran dry, I’d go to my garden proud neighbour, and hold the hose, to water her flowers and veg, all technically legal
