I’m that fat girl again

r/

I’m really struggling right now and could use some advice from people who’ve been through this.

I worked my ass off for 6 months, stayed consistent, and lost a ton of weight. I finally felt like I was getting somewhere. But in just 3 months, I gained it all back… and honestly I look worse than when I first started.

It’s crushing. I feel like all that hard work was for nothing, and I don’t even know how to get myself back on track. The guilt and shame are eating at me, and the idea of starting over feels impossible.

If you’ve ever lost a lot of weight and then gained it back, how did you pick yourself up again? How did you push past the discouragement and get back on the wagon?

I really just need some real stories and encouragement right now, because I don’t want to stay stuck here.

The fact that you had the courage and will to go make a positive change in your life once, you can do it again. Fuck anyone who tries to discourage you. You got this!

Sadly losing weight must be a lifestyle change. Diets do not work. The most important part out of all is reducing the amount of products you eat with high amounts of calories such as candy and other junk food.

I used the Anger to never buy unhealthy stuff anymore and if I don’t have access to it I don’t need it that badly.

You did it the first time and proved to yourself that you can do it every time if you just show up for yourself.

Been there. It’s a process- not just to lose weight but to figure out what works for you to sustain long-term healthy weight management.

You did it once, you can do it again but you will likely do it even more effectively this time because you have learned so much from your experience.

You’ve cracked the code! You can do it.

As I get older this has been a more constant struggle. I hit my heaviest around 10 years ago, about 250 as a ~6’0 male, and I do not look good fat. Had the classic double chin, gut, the works. I decided enough was enough and basically starved myself for months until I hit my goal weight of about 180. It was great!

    Until it wasn’t.

It was fun sharing my progress with my friends on facebook and at work, it helped me stay on course and going in the right direction.

But then all the excitement of the moment slowly died down and had the same thing happen and relapsed to about 230. I realized that fad diets and making losing weight ‘fun’ was a part of the process, but staying down had to be more than just a phase or period in my life, it had to be a way of life from now on. That change of mindset was what really got me on the right path.

Get a full medical workup and a nutritionist to make a meal plan for you.

Realize that consistency doesn’t mean monotony. If you miss your regular exercise routine, do something active at home. Incorporate other active forms of entertainment like dancing, martial arts, karaoke. Make friends who encourage you to stay active. Increase your water intake and daily step count.

This has happened to me about 4 times now. But my reasons for gaining weight again each time were different. My most recent reason and still dealing with it is because of a back injury from work, so this time I really need to let myself rest and heal. Anyways, 1 thing I do each time and it always works to get the ball rolling is just go to the gym. What I mean is when you get that little spurt of energy of you’re feeling motivated, just go to the gym, don’t say I’ll go later today or tomorrow go in that very moment you’re feeling motivated. Let your body get used to the gym again, and you’ll find yourself coming back and getting into routine again, that’s how it’s always been for me at least and I’m sure it’ll be the same this time once I’m healed.

It’s called yo-yo dieting. I never mastered it. I hope you do. Be prepared to give up food for life. Some people are lucky. I hope you are.

Look up Kelly Hogan on youtube. She went from very overweight to skinny and has stayed that way for many years. Lots of videos on her channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4sTwdwCJNI&pp=0gcJCckJAYcqIYzv
