Liam Paine mainly because of age but also cause of death

Robin Williams, he seemed like such a happy guy, life was good, but then he goes and commits suicide. It was a shock! Princess Diana died in a car crash, Steve Irwin was killed in an accident with his beloved wildlife, but Robin Williams purposely killed himself. That was a difficult thing to understand, at least until we learned of his health issues.

  8. TheAlpineKlopp Avatar

Diana. Nothing else is even close.

    Michael Jackson

Probably the murder of Jill Dando, a well known TV presenter who ironically used to present Crime Watch.
Here in the UK at least.

  12. Greymon-Katratzi Avatar

Gene Hackman what an awful way to go.

  13. ForsakenPercentage53 Avatar

Anthony Bourdain wasn’t exactly shocking, but it was devastating to chefs.

Chadwick Boseman. There have been celebrity deaths that come by surprise(suicides, OD, accidents) but when the news broke, nobody outside of his circle knew what he had been going through while still playing a hero.

Gained so much more respect and it truly was a shock given his age and the height of his career at the time.

  17. SundaySpieth Avatar

Anthony Bourdain and Kobe. Sincerely, a millennial.

  18. CousinBug Avatar

    Phil Hartman

Edit: His wife shot him then herself

Bob Saget. He just fell, hit his head and thought he’d be fine after a nap. I think it being a freak accident and that he died so suddenly also added to the shock factor. Very sad.

  20. sakmentoloki Avatar

Steve irwin, he was my childhood.

  21. doerpiman Avatar

Mac Miller, still having a hard time listening to his music ever since

  22. Cantre-r_Gwaelod_1 Avatar

Brittany Murphy felt unreal for years.

  23. Sea_Warning_9140 Avatar

Sean Lock one sucked big time

  24. crackpotpourri Avatar

Diana, Michael, Robin, and Carrie Fisher and her mother, with the latter largely a surprise because it was so immediately after Carrie—died of a broken heart after losing her child.

  25. sdothooper Avatar

    Anthony Bourdain

  26. Griffie Avatar

    Robin Williams

  27. CriticalSuit1336 Avatar

    Chadwick Boseman for me.

For me Chester Bennington. That one hit me the hardest.

  30. drammer Avatar

John Lennon, and Stevie Ray Vaughan

  31. Aromatic-Leopard-600 Avatar

Robin Williams. Now that the real reason came out-Lewy body- I can understand why he did it.

  32. JLR- Avatar

John Ritter.  He was having a career resurgance and his death came out of nowhere.

  33. Steve_Beef62 Avatar

    Kobe Bryant and Robin Williams

  34. Ok-Result-9532 Avatar

Chris Cornell. Went and watched his solo acoustic gig at like 2 hours notice. Fuckn unreal. What a guy

  35. PixieWicked Avatar

    Princess Diana,Robin Williams

  36. ABest96 Avatar

Robin Williams for sure, was battling depression myself at the time and it really stung knowing that even those who portray themselves as incredibly happy and joyful can be struggling so deeply. Really encouraged me to actively seek help and talk about my problems in a healthy way.

  37. TheRoscoeVine Avatar

I don’t really know what could be more fucked up than Vic Morrow, and two children, I believe, dying on the set of The Twilight Zone. That was a truly pointless death.

  38. mintedbadger Avatar

Michelle Trachtenberg. She hadn’t been on my radar for years, but because of her age and relative lack of drama, it came out of nowhere and made me so sad.

  39. Negative-Coyote8925 Avatar

    Philip Seymour Hoffman

  40. AverageBeef Avatar

    Grant Imahara for me

  41. BungenessKrabb Avatar

Phil Hartman. Shot & killed while he was sleeping by his wife.

  42. willis_michaels Avatar

Steve Irwin, Kobe Bryant, and Anthony Bourdain hit me the hardest

  43. DawnSignals Avatar

    Princess Diana

Edit: Someone below posted that so I’d also say MJ

  44. demittens Avatar

    George Michael, VERY suspicious circumstances!!!

  45. lowbloodsugarmner Avatar

For me it was Chester Bennington. Linkin Park was the band I listed to all of highschool. Both my brother and sister called me to ask if I was okay and how I was taking it.

It was hard for me to accept when Emily Armstrong joined, as to me it felt like without Chester it was no longer Linkin Park. I’ve come to enjoy their new music and think that she is doing a good job, although I havnt really listened to her sing any of their old songs.

  46. sylviaplathsstove Avatar

Brittany Murphy for me, I liked her 🙁

  47. FierceBadRabbits Avatar

River Phoenix – but I think I was too young/naive to know what addiction looked like. Very close second was Princess Diana. That was a globally recognized tragedy.

  48. Safe-Ad-5721 Avatar

There are a fair few. But for me, it was Amy Winehouse—had it all ahead of her, died at 27. So young, so talented.

  49. lilmihoshi Avatar

    Amy Winehouse and Robin Williams

  50. Its_all_alright Avatar

Phillip Seymour Hoffman has to be up there.

No one expected he’d die of a heroin overdose. When he died he had 5 empty bags of heroin and 65 unused bags of heroin in his possession.

  51. JaesopPop Avatar

Chris Cornell for me. Seemed like he had finally beat his demons, but I guess we never really do.

  52. MrSloane Avatar

Grant Imahara. It wasn’t big news, or it was under the radar for me. I was so sad when I heard.

  53. TwoDrinkDave Avatar

Jeff Buckley. He was a transcendent talent. I connected with him so much, personally. He died so young and so unexpectedly. So in terms of shock value, this is the top for me.

  54. Double_Individual_57 Avatar

The one that figuratively (to be honest it was almost literally, but I was at work and had a team to manage) dropped me to my knees was Prince.

Robin Williams also nearly broke me. I was at home when that bomb dropped.

  55. writekindofnonsense Avatar

Princess Diana. It was a global event.

  56. NOT000 Avatar

    chris cornell suicide shocked me

  57. jenn7097 Avatar

    Princess Diana for me.

  58. La-de Avatar

For me personally it was Steve Irwin. I was in 7th grade and he was definitely my hero at the time.

  59. Hausnelis Avatar

    Robin Williams and Chris Cornell

50 years? To people now or at the time.

    Elvis

    John Lennon

JR Ewing (But that was only a dream)

    Princess Diana

    Curt Cobain

    Robin Willams

Honestly, Princess Diana easily the biggest even not most notable to me personally. But it is hard to state how big Elvis and Lennon were at their deaths. Curt Cobain for a younger age group. Though I am in the Robin Williams for me camp.

  61. Beneficial_Tree4204 Avatar

John Lennon. At the time it was a seismic global shock.

  62. realfakejames Avatar

    Robin Williams

He wasn’t sick, everyone grew up with him, out of nowhere he was dead
