TIFU Nodded off at work today whilst I was midway through writing a report on my sales and forecasting- discovered I have a bizarre new talent

r/

Background is that I WFH and have been having some really savage bouts of insomnia on and off over the past few weeks and I’m exhausted.

Nodded off at my laptop during work and apparently wrote a (very unnecessary) summary of the pip claim process complete with timelines in my sleep.

Woke up to an open calendar appointment and a fairly comprehensive report detailing things I know nothing about.

I have no clue why it merited a NATO response nor do I know anything about PIP claims

TLDR Discovered I can sleep write and woke up to read what is probably the weirdest and bizarrely depressing dream I’ve ever heard about.
Don’t remember any of it, and that’s probably for the best.

Now having read in detail what my dreaming subconscious throws at me nightly ….I’m not mad that i don’t remember dreaming anymore

Hahaha Ive done the exact same thing a few years back, dozed off while fighting off sleep to continue writing something important, woke up the next morning to multiple paragraph ramblings about minecraft redstone ??? At that point I hadn’t played minecraft in a few years

Obviously, NATO invoked Article 5 over the coup attempt at Amazon.

This aggression will not stand, man!

I’ve done that while working late on a work project with a team. I kept typing while they talked, thinking I was taking notes or editing. They noticed and watched in amazement – hands kept typing, eyes closed head slumped.

It was absolute garbage, so we decided to call it a night.

Did you start any new medications recently? I knew someone that started new antidepressants then one day blanked out for several hours at work and didnt realize they had all these different conversations and arguments. Then they had other moments of blanking out or doing things in their sleep until they decided to quit the meds.

A coup at Amazon? Did they replace Bezos?

Do you have a carbon monoxide detector in your house? Didn’t somebody on Reddit suffer from insomnia and wake up to notes he thought someone else was leaving for him?

insomnia does weird things to your brain… i used to have sleep issues and would find voice memos on my phone i didn’t remember recording. usually just mumbling about microphone placement at 4am. your subconscious picking up that PIP conversation and processing it while you slept is actually kind of fascinating. sleep deprivation makes your brain do strange filing work

in addition to the obligatory carbon monoxide check, id suggest looking into a sleep study and possibly an mslt (nap study). i started having insomnia a few years ago when i was 27 and a few rare and minor episodes where my dreams/waking life would get hazy. i would think i was lucid dreaming but i was actually “awake” and actually doing stuff or sometimes i would be asleep having a really vivid dream and i wouldnt be able to convince myself it was just a dream, even after i woke up. i went to a neurologist for a sleep study thinking it was either stress from work or sleep apnea, but it turns out i have a mild form of narcolepsy.

I sleep read apparently. I was reading this short story I had never read before out loud to my husband. As far as I know, I stopped reading because I was falling asleep. But when I told my husband I needed to finish reading it, he told me I had finished and said “Don’t you remember when” and proceeded to tell me the ending. I said that definitely hadn’t happened but I went and read it myself and he was right. Apparently I continued reading while I was also dreaming that I stopped reading.

I was at work doing helpdesk calls for the navy, got monitored on the call, fell asleep and still got 100%QA score complete accurate notes as well. The guy was like how did you do that? My shift started at 4am lol. It was a wonder I didn’t crash my ride on the way to work. Lol

I wonder what timeline you were in where you were in where writing that was necessary and relevant?! Lol

About 1966 I was trying to repair a Webster-Chicago wire recorder from the 1950s, in my bedroom. I fell asleep at midnight. I woke up with my hand in the middle of the live vacuum tube machine, dreaming about fixing it.

Just in case you didn’t try it yet: did white noise help any? There are tracks on all streaming music services, several to choose from.

Pedantic note: the stuff they call “white” noise is actually pink noise usually. White noise is not filtered to make it sound in any particular way.

When I was younger I fell asleep while DMing a friend and apparently just kept sending “How are you?” Over and over again. Only learned this when I woke up and asked and they pointed out I’d asked this question like 5 times.
