Do you have to be an aspiring law enforcement officer to get a ride around ?

r/

He’s my additional text…. I was always curious about it…. If my job falls through it’s my next option. I guess what I am wondering is if I’d get the chance to ride along with a Leo. (I live in a distant place from a big city.) I want to avoid any city.
And I am also a night shift worker. Is there a chance

Speaking for my department, no. Any civilian wanting to do it are more than welcome to do so. It’s honestly encouraged to people who criticize the profession more than people who want to join it, in my opinion.

Anybody can do a ride along if they can pass a background check.

I know some agencies that restrict only prospect candidates because of covid, and some haven’t change that policy after that.

As someone who just did my first ride along, a lot of the city agencies in the big city I live in require you to live in that incorporated city or be in the hiring process, which is so stupid. Luckily, the sheriffs departments are more relaxed, and generally let anyone ride along pending a background check. Just Google some of the agencies and go to their website and they usually have information about their ride along and what qualifies to get one

My department encourages citizens to do ride alongs. You get to see what actually happens during a tour of duty.
