Why do some folks get upset when I try to do what they ask?

r/

There are several people I have met over the years who get upset when I try to be respectful and do what they ask.

For example, if I am told to “stop talking ” I will stop and listen. This seems to anger them more because they didn’t actually want me to stop talking, they wanted me to argue.

I have been told to “forget about my injuries and just do my job” and when I try to do so they get angry because I am injuring myself further.

I’m not trying to be an “obedient child” I just want to respect other people’s boundaries and, if I am in their home or business, respect their request. Why ask for something then get upset when the request was fulfilled?

This is a good question. My mother complains so much about things in her life that are not done like the dishes. But, if you were to go do the dishes, she would get angry.

For some people they’re just poor communicators – they expect you to be able to read their minds. Had an ex like that. You can guess why she’s my ex lol
