Multi-car accident not at-fault, what’s next?

r/

I was in a car accident where I was stopped in traffic and the guy behind me accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake and slammed me into the car in front of me, which then hit the car in front of him. This completely totaled my car. I’m worried to death because I am a single mother who works and goes to school full time. I can’t afford another car. With 3 cars being involved, will his insurance even cover the amount to buy a used car? I’m worried sick over this. (and he admitted he accidentally hit the gas and hit me)

    Is the other driver insured?

His insurance will cover, at most, the fair market value of your car as it was. If he’s insured, and if he has sufficient coverage to pay for all of the cars damaged.

If you have collision coverage, file a claim against your own policy. That doesn’t solve the limit of fair market value, but solves his potential lack of adequate coverage.

Do you have collision coverage? If yes, use it. If not, this may take a while to settle if they don’t have high enough limits to move forward quickly with the claim.

How much if your car worth? How is the damages on the other cars?
