Me 25 gay geeky IT guy, him 23 straight (AFAIK). Semi pro Rugby player, sporty guy.
Now usually I don’t really have anything in common with sporty types being a techie, but this guy started at work. When we first met I was wearing an LGBT lanyard and we were talking for like 40 minutes when he came into my office and everytime I see him, without fail he acknowledges me. If hes with someone I get a nod and a straight guy “alright”. If we pass each other and no ones around he softens his vocal tone, smiles and says “hi, Joe” or “hi Joe, how are you?” sometimes we will just stop and have a chat and he’ll tell me what hes been upto and ask about me. He seems to be really chatty with me and I noticed on CCTV he walks away from me with a smile on his face and then recomposes himself when he sees people coming towards him.
I’ve noticed that he has a different persona with the others (AFAIK). Very blokely as you’d expect from a rugby player. Doesn’t really talk to or look at the women and keeps it very succinct with the men and seems to watch what he says. Others have started to comment that he’s different around me and without assuming he’s got a secret crush (he might) does anyone have any idea why he might be doing this?

awe, this is cute
Living the dream manðŸ˜
From a straight woman, he sounds adorable If other people have noticed, then his crush isn’t so secret.
Well, it’s possible he genuinely enjoys your company and finds your conversations engaging, regardless of any deeper motivations. People often gravitate towards those who make them feel comfortable and valued, and it sounds like you create that atmosphere… Perhaps he simply appreciates a good conversation partner, and feels at ease sharing experiences with you. It’s a positive dynamic, and you shouldn’t overthink it
He likes you maybe? 🙂
No he doesn’t, please, take it from me. Straight men do get soft around gay men. That’s it, he is being kind. Be very cautious with whatever steps you take. Let him initiate if there is a possibility of a romance. Don’t think much, incase this does not take off it will cause you immense hurt. Happened with me , left me devastated , had to switch workplace.
Could be he has a bit of a crush on you.
Could be that he is less friendly to straight men because he treats them as “competition”, but sees you a less of a threat to his romantic interests.
Could be he used to bully gay kids and is making a conscious effort to do better.
Who knows?
Just because he doesn’t look at women at work doesn’t mean anything he might not do anything at work
He like you.
Not necessarily in a romantic way, he enjoys your company, it’s not always about romantic stuff sounds like he wants to be friends.
Edit to add: Every person I’ve met who plays rugby is not straight.
Could also be he’s liberal and he feels like he can be himself around you without being insulted by the other het guys in the office
> I noticed on CCTV
Just perks of being the IT guy, nothing weird!
