So, this just happened.
I live in a very rural area so our gas stations are a cross between gas station, convenience store, and small restaurant. One of the gas stations I frequent has really good personal pan pizzas and they are decently priced.
My whole family enjoys them when we get them and everyone is home this afternoon, so I decided to pick some up since I happened to be near this gas station. It was just about 2:00PM and they had 6 personal pizzas ready. Knowing my family, that is kind of the perfect amount. They also had up different kinds and we like to mix and match, so I grabbed them.
The food service person looked at me and said “Are you fucking kidding me?” I was a little stunned and I just said “Huh?” They proceeded to tell me I was an asshole for taking all the pizzas. I explained they were going to my family and not just myself. They said it’s no excuse to take all the pizzas. I was bewildered and asked “Isn’t the purpose of making them to sell them?” The food service worker looked at the cashier and said “You can make some fucking more. I’m going outside for a smoke.”
The cashier didn’t say anything to the food service worker or me, rang me up, bagged the food, and gave me my receipt. As I was walking to my vehicle I could hear the food service worker talking to someone on their phone about “the fucking asshole who thinks this is a goddamned buffet.”
The whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth and while driving home I kept thinking to myself “Am I an asshole for buying those pizzas?”
AITAH?
Comments
Yeah, that’s an asshole move. for big orders like that you phone ahead. I’d have thought that was common sense.
If I get a hot and ready pizza, I’d be eating it right away because it’s…well, hot and ready. Otherwise, I’d be getting a frozen pizza as it’d be inconsiderate.
Did your family eat all six in one sitting?
There’s no difference from you coming in and buying for six people and six people coming in to buy all the pizzas. Would it be more okay if you and two or three others were there? It’s all going to the same place. Sounds like this person was upset about not being able to grab one themselves. They take like, ten/fifteen minutes to make, so it’s not even like it’s a long wait for fresh. It’s a frigging GAS STATION, ffs. This is like going into a 7-11 and someone being mad you bought stuff.
What a dumbass. NTA. They had zero reason to be salty about their product being bought. It’s the point of it.
NTA
Maybe if this was like a well known popular item and you were the first out of a long line to get them, you’d be the ahole. But I can’t imagine these gas station pizzas are just so in high demand that they need to be rationed out. I’m betting the worker is just angry now he has to make more.
Also, if they are that popular the store should set a limit themselves. You’re right, they are there to sell them, and they sold them. And six is not some crazy high number or anything.
The food service person thought they’d get a little break, but now they have to work, so they are pissed.
>Isn’t the purpose of making them to sell them?
Yes, yes it is.
NTA
Talk w/ the owner, that person was out of line.
NTA. That’s what they are for and I doubt the process to make more is very difficult, and even if it is, that’s what they got hired for!
If you’re getting that many pizzas, just go to an actual pizza place and get bigger ones ordered. But the other person’s response was uncalled for
Very soft YTA.
She just knows she’s gotta make more now. LAZY.
Not the ass hole! It is their job to make the pizzas and you are there to buy them. I had a boss when I was younger who said customers make paydays possible…. Sometimes people forget that
NTA. Dude was just upset that they had to do more work and make 6 more pizzas right then after they just made them. They prob usually just make 6 and they sit for a while.
They were just being lazy. You’re NTA just because you made them work at the job they are being paid for.
Report him to the manager. Nobody wants an employee who gets mad at CUSTOMERS for BUYING things
“How dare you buy my product. “
WTF NTA
NTA. My guess is that the food service person had been eyeing one off for themselves, but couldn’t buy it yet for some reason. I’d reach out and let the owner/manager of the store know about the situation, just to make sure there’s a note about their behaviour.
The worker is mad they have to make more, this is very common in low paying jobs and the lazy people that work them. I used to work in the service industry and had this happen all the time. I once got yelled at by my manager because I sold half a chocolate cake to one table and it was the only one we had, so the manager was worried nobody else could get any. The imaginary customers were more important than the actual customers buying the cake, but the reality was that they didn’t want to have to make another one.
You should have sat in the parking lot and waited for the next six pizzas to be ready, then gone in and bought all six of those.
NTA, but I am.
NTA, it’s something they make in house which is insanely stupid to get upset about; It’s not like it’s a finite resource. Also it’s incredibly unprofessional to do that as an employee, they more than likely wanted it for themselves right then.
What a loser, it’s part of their job. Seems lazy that someone actually made them do their job lmao.
NTA
This dude was weird. You’re not responsible for someone else’s crazy.
Call the owner, her horrific attitude deserves to be reported
Nta
This is what reviews are for
NTA. They’re made for purchase. You did nothing wrong. Either he’s just lazy and didn’t want to make more, or he was hoping they wouldn’t all sell and he could eat one himself.
NTA! The same thing happen to my mom in a bagel shop last week.. She asked for a dozen bagels, girl behind the counter said okay.. Mom asked for 5 flagels (flat bagels that my mom and aunt love) and she said “no, there’s a rush coming, I can’t give you 5.” But they’re right there on display to be sold.. Why is our money not as good as someone elses? Mom was meeting people and wanted to bring breakfast..
But the counter girl genuinely refused to sell them, mom walked out without buying anything, stopped at another bagel shop 5 minutes down the road and gave them the profits instead.
It’s completely unreasonable for a shop to refuse to sell you something that is on sale just in case someone else wants it later… I know we won’t be back to the first bagel shop anymore.. and we were regular customers before this.
Of all the service interactions I’ve ever had, Top 3 most bizarre ones were at gas stations. Just something about those places.
Oh yeah, NTA. It’s not a food bank, you’re paying for this stuff, and 6 personal panned is not an exorbitant amount of pizza for a family
lolololol. what a lazy piece of work.
though maybe ion the future if you have a big order, give them a call ahead?
Kinda seems like the dude didn’t feel like making more, and he took it out on you
Having worked retail, I can kind of get the feeling. I used to work at party city, for valentines day we would premake bouquets of balloons. It was really annoying whenever someone would just buy all of them at once bc then we had to make more, but I would never express that to the customer. They have the right to do that, the product is there to be purchased and they can purchase as much as they want.
Similarly, even if the 6 pizzas had been just for you, it is your right as a consumer. They have no business to bitch to you about it. Maybe once you have walked out the door they can be salty abt it but they shouldn’t put that on you
Gas station worker who is known for rationality.
NTA. I thought the whole point of offering food at a convenience store was to actually sell it…
I wonder if there’s some sort of deal where the workers get to take hold unsold inventory and he was hoping not to have to make any more.
No you certainly were not. I echo that you should talk to the owner of the business. That person was totally out of line.
What an indignant little fuck that dude is… sorry you have to do your job and put more frozen pizzas in the oven now… smh 🤦🏻♂️
NTA. Not sure if it’s like the gas stations near me but they literally just heat up some frozen pizzas.
Even if they make them from scratch, the way the assembly is done they can fire some more easily.
NTA. When a person buys out the entire tray of food at a restaurant I work in, we’re not mad. You just turn to your coworker and go “damn, they love your food today.” You make more. That’s the whole point. Why wouldn’t someone want, “These pizzas are so good, I’d buy all of them.”???
Ha… Grandma’s Bakery in Cashton, WI does this. They lose their shit if you buy up a dozen doughnuts or more. They get snarky and bark at you for not pre-ordering ahead of time… but like isn’t the whole goal to sell all the items? If someone comes in later wanting a doughnut and you are out… they will likely get a cookie or something else. They also get super crabby if you order more than 3 sub sandwiches. Its a daughter and mother team that own it and are the only employees so its not like the money doesn’t go directly into their pockets. Bizarre. Most of us try to avoid doing business with them because they are so bitchy.
That’s hilarious.
Tell them they should put up a sign that says “ONLY ONE PIZZA per CUSTOMER..”
OP PLEASE Do Not tell her boss BUT tell her Bosses Boss. That way the next level of personnel knows what is happening at that particular location.
Tbh as someon3 who used to work at a convenience store, YTA. If you’re planning to order a large amount of prepared food, call ahead. They plan out what theyre going to make and how long they expect it to last and you just cleared out their entire inventory.
NTA. That person probably just finished making them and assumed they would be good for a while. You buying them all means they have to make more now instead of later.
NTA.
NTA but the other guy is a complete piece of shit.
I was assistant manager for 4 years in a convenience store that sold pizza. Large 16 inch pizzas. Start to finish including cook time and prep time they took 6 minutes. The food service worker was just being lazy and hoping to eat the pizzas when they didn’t sell.
NTA, food service guy is angry because he now needs to make more pizzas. But that’s not OP’s problem and he didn’t do anything wrong by temporarily cleaning out the pizza supply.
Maybe the workers get to take what’s left home at the end of the night? NTA
Call and speak with the store manager. That food service person needs a lesson in manners, how to treat customers, a lesson in language when talking with customers. You were the only customer buying the pizzas. There was no line. The purpose of having food is to sell it. The food person is just annoyed because now he’ll have to actually do his job and make some more.
I wouldn’t think so. It does kinda piss me off when someone grabs food that I JUST made n put out, but not enough to ruin my day, n I definitely wouldn’t go off on someone for trying to buy the food I just made. Besides it’s better to be bought out than thrown away, or in my location’s case we give to the less fortunate, some homeless some violent offenders in a halfway house.
NTA. In fact, if I were you I’d do this again soon. And again.
I once got told by a convenience store worker that they stopped selling corn dogs because people bought them too much so they were constantly making corn dogs. I was dumbfounded.
NTA – it sounds like someone’s not happy they’re going to have to work and make more.
The worker just didn’t want to prep more. As long as there’s a pizza or 2, he doesn’t have to do anything. You’re NTA but that guy was
So if you had brought the whole family in and everybody grabbed their own, would they have said “sorry, we have to save some for other customers.” NTA
NTA.
The food service worker was lazy and didn’t want to make more pizzas. They are probably required to maintain some minimum stock level and your order was going to force the person to actually have to work.
I’m assuming you go here often enough? So I’d call the store manager. The worker was trying to bully you into not buying all. Even if you left one they still would have to make more.
He is probably angry because maybe the leftovers are given to the staff
They weren’t mad that you were buying the pizzas OP
They’re trying to be lazy and not have to make any more for their entire shift. Which is pretty disgusting really
