I was out in front of my residence building having a smoke, when someone I knew came up to me. We chatted a bit, and she told me that her brother had passed away a few days ago. I told her I was sorry, gave her my condolences and all that.
Then she said: “Crack is whack man.”
I shook my head and solemnly said: “yea man, cwack is whack.”
After I misspoke, I giggled audibly at my slip-up. Then I realized I had just laughed after she told me her brother died of a drug overdose.
I quickly apologized and left.
How is your day going?

I’m the type of person who uses humor to cope with trauma/sadness/etc and I’ve learned that about myself so if I ever am in one of those situations I try to remember to tell people that before I say anything else. Or if I do it I immediately explain myself.
It’s not the end of the world.
I’ve laughed at funerals and when a friend was telling me how she broke her arm. I’m terrible 😞
