When I was at uni, I filled in the form to apply for the better 4 year course instead of the 3 year.
I had the form printed with me in my lecture, but I couldn’t be bothered to walk up the steps to hand it in to the office. I wasn’t gonna get the place anyway. My bf convinced me too. I handed it in.
I got the place, I got to study abroad, I graduated a year later. After graduating, on a kind of gap year I meant a Kiwi guy who convinced me to move to Australia with him.
Now I live in New Zealand (alone) and have done for 10 years.
If I had not climbed the stairs to hand in that form that day, I am convinced my life would be different, because the timing meant I wouldn’t have met who I did.
I believe my life would be different but not necessarily worse had I not handed it in.
27 years ago I went to the shopping mall and in a lark bought a whole mess of AD&D clearance stuff from KayBToys.
I was in college and my campus job was as a computer lab supervisor. This gave me a whole lot of time to mess around on the web. The D&D stuff had information about the Wizard of the Coast website, so I started reading the forums. One post talked about an obscure web game where you roleplay a wizard and answer trivia questions. So I signed up. Would have never found that site if not for the wotc post I read that day.
I got really invested in that trivia site (less than 200 users) and met some amazing people. One in particular was really amazing. They lived 1/2 way across the country but forum posts turned into dms that turned into phone calls.
Long story short we have been together since 2001 and married since 2004, because I bought some D&D adventures on clearance one day at the mall.
