Planning a wedding can bring out the absolute worst in people. We have all heard horror stories about brides demanding their friends dye their hair or lose weight for the perfect aesthetic photos. But sometimes a bride takes things to a completely different level of entitlement. One woman recently took to Reddit to complain about her maid of honor, and she ended up exposing herself as the ultimate wedding villain.
The Original Poster is a twenty seven year old bride who hit the absolute jackpot in the friendship department. Her twenty six year old best friend Kathy happens to be a professional wedding planner. Kathy has hosted hundreds of events and generously offered to help plan the entire wedding completely free of charge. Anyone planning a wedding knows that professional services cost thousands of dollars, making this an incredibly massive gift.
The bride claims she showered Kathy with gifts to repay her for the free labor, but a few thank you presents do not equal a professional salary. Regardless, Kathy got to work and planned everything flawlessly. Fast forward to one month before the big day, and it was time to finalize the bachelorette weekend. Kathy organized the entire trip, booked the rentals, and arranged every single activity the bride requested.
But then Kathy dropped a very respectful and boundary setting bombshell. After arranging the entire wild weekend perfectly to the bride’s exact specifications, Kathy announced she would not be attending the actual party. The bride was completely shocked and confused as to why her best friend would plan a massive trip but refuse to actually pack a bag and go.
When the bride asked for an explanation, Kathy delivered the most mature and polite response imaginable. She explained that some of the activities the bride requested, specifically the male strippers, crossed a hard boundary in her own relationship with her fiancé. Kathy did not judge the bride for wanting strippers. She literally booked and paid the deposit for them. She just personally opted out to respect her own partnership.
You would think a bride would simply say thank you to the woman who organized her dream party and respect her relationship boundaries. Instead, the bride threw a massive internal tantrum. She claimed she was heartbroken and actually spent days trying to pressure Kathy into changing her mind. Forcing your best friend to interact with adult entertainers against her will is incredibly toxic behavior.
To make matters worse, Kathy offered another perfectly reasonable warning about the actual wedding day. She let the bride know in advance that she would not be drinking any alcohol at the reception. Kathy explained that she gets lightheaded easily and simply did not want to get sick while celebrating her best friend. Choosing to stay sober so you can be fully present and helpful is the definition of a great maid of honor.
The bride did not see it that way. Hearing that her best friend would be sober and skipping the stripper party sent her over the absolute edge. She looked right at the woman who planned her entire wedding for free and called her a buzz kill. Then she took it a step further and officially kicked Kathy out of the bridal party entirely, demoting her to a regular guest.
Kathy was incredibly upset and rightfully pointed out how deeply unfair this demotion was. The bride threw away a lifelong friendship over a glass of champagne and a bachelorette party she did not even have to lift a finger to plan. Even the other bridesmaids are turning against the bride. They told her she took things way too far and that having one sober, boundary respecting friend in the room would absolutely not ruin the wedding.
The internet did not hold back and unanimously crowned the bride the massive ahole. You do not get to dictate how other adults consume alcohol or navigate their own romantic relationships just because you are wearing a white dress.
