When you move into someone else’s home completely rent free, there is one universal rule you must follow. You respect the people and the animals who already live there. It is truly not that difficult to just mind your own business and be grateful you have a roof over your head. But one man on Reddit recently found out that his pregnant future sister in law has absolutely zero respect for his home or his beloved pet.
The Original Poster is a twenty seven year old guy who has a cat named Billy. Billy is his absolute best friend, providing him with constant laughs and comfort. The OP is currently engaged to his twenty six year old fiancee, who happens to be unemployed and searching for a job. Recently, the fiancee’s pregnant sister got kicked out of her own home by her boyfriend. Being a generous guy, the OP allowed the sister to move in with them.
Because he is the only one bringing in an income, the OP had to start working even more hours just to financially support his fiancee and her pregnant sister. You would think the sister would be incredibly thankful for this massive favor. Instead, she decided to make it her personal mission to terrorize the OP’s innocent cat.
The sister constantly complained about Billy simply existing in his own house. She would aggressively yell at the cat to get out of the kitchen or the living room. She even went as far as spraying him with water and throwing his expensive cat food directly into the trash. When the OP caught her red handed and demanded she stop hurting his pet, his fiancee actually defended the terrible behavior. The fiancee claimed her sister just did not know how to treat cats.
Things escalated from minor harassment to straight up animal cruelty in the blink of an eye. The OP came home from a long day of work at six in the evening and noticed Billy was nowhere to be found. He asked the sister where the cat was, and she casually lied right to his face, claiming Billy just wandered off in the morning.
Thankfully, a heroic neighbor stepped in and saved the day. The neighbor walked up to the OP holding a terrified Billy. The neighbor completely exposed the sister’s sinister plot, revealing he actually saw her drop the cat off near a random auto repair shop a good distance away from the house. She literally stole her generous host’s cat and dumped him on the street to fend for himself.
The OP was rightfully livid. Poor Billy was so traumatized by the ordeal that he was shaking and completely refused to eat. The OP confronted the sister about the kidnapping. She tried to lie her way out of it again and begged the fiancee for backup. When that failed, she finally admitted to dumping the cat but tried to use her pregnancy as a shield. She claimed she was just worried about her baby because cats are supposedly dangerous for pregnant women.
Let us clear up this massive medical misconception right now. The only real risk cats pose to pregnant women is toxoplasmosis, which is entirely avoided by simply forcing someone else to scoop the litter box. You do not need to abduct an animal and abandon it at a mechanic’s shop to protect your unborn child. The OP exploded and immediately kicked the ungrateful sister out of his house, fully proving he is not the ahole in this situation.
In a shocking twist of betrayal, the fiancee actually took her sister’s side. She called the OP unsupportive and accused him of overreacting. She even had the absolute audacity to suggest he should just send Billy to live with a friend to accommodate the woman who just tried to permanently get rid of him. The internet is completely siding with the OP and begging him to throw the whole fiancee away along with her toxic sister.
