Weddings bring out the absolute worst in people. You think you know someone until they get a ring on their finger and suddenly start dictating your physical appearance. We all know brides want their photos to look perfect. But there is a massive line between asking your bridal party to wear a specific shade of pink and demanding they literally erase their medical conditions. One woman on Reddit recently experienced the ultimate bridezilla nightmare and her story has everyone completely enraged.
The Original Poster is a twenty one year old woman who has a skin condition called vitiligo. The condition currently covers more than half of her body. She also has a very distinct scar on her cheek and another scar running the entire length of her arm. After years of dealing with these physical differences she has fully embraced her appearance. She does not use makeup to cover anything up because she is happy with how she looks and refuses to hide a part of herself.
Enter the soon to be bride. The Original Poster has a twenty seven year old cousin named Dan. Dan is getting married to a twenty six year old woman named Laura. Up until the wedding planning started Laura was always perfectly nice. She never made a fuss about the Original Poster’s appearance and they actually became decent friends. So when Laura asked her to be a bridesmaid she happily accepted the invitation.
But the sweet facade dropped pretty quickly. Shortly after she accepted the bridesmaid role Laura gently asked if she could cover up her scars for the wedding. The Original Poster admits she was not thrilled about the request. She acknowledged that her scars can be an eyesore to some people so she swallowed her pride and agreed to hide them. That conversation happened last autumn and everyone thought the issue was fully resolved.

As the big day approached, Laura decided to push her luck even further. She extended her original demand and asked the bridesmaid to also cover up her vitiligo. This is a completely unhinged request because the condition covers over half of her body. Complying with this demand would require two wildly unreasonable options for the bridesmaid.
She would either have to buy a completely different outfit that covers her entire body or she would have to bathe in concealing cream. Being covered in sixty percent body makeup is a logistical nightmare. It would easily transfer onto the furniture and probably ruin her expensive bridesmaid dress. Plus showing up in a totally different outfit or wearing a full body layer of foundation would actually make her stand out way more than her natural skin would.
She logically tried to explain this to the bride. She pointed out that everyone attending the wedding already knows her and knows exactly what she looks like. Changing her entire appearance would just draw massive amounts of unwanted attention and make Laura look incredibly controlling. But Laura refused to listen to logic. She basically told the bridesmaid to just figure something out because she did not want anyone taking attention away from the bride.
Realizing she was dealing with a deeply insecure person the Original Poster came up with the simplest solution possible. You cannot steal the bride’s thunder if you are not standing at the altar. She officially stepped down from the bridal party. She figured she would just attend the wedding as a regular guest wearing a normal dress and avoid the professional photos altogether.
Even that generous compromise was not good enough for this bridezilla. Laura actually told her she still needed to cover up her skin condition even if she was just sitting in the audience as a regular guest. The Original Poster finally put her foot down and said absolutely not. Laura threw a huge fit and now the Original Poster is refusing to attend the wedding at all.
The cousin Dan is completely failing at managing his future wife. He simply told Laura to let it go and tried to calm her down instead of defending his own family member. Some people actually have the audacity to tell the Original Poster she should just swallow her pride for one day. But you do not ask someone to erase their identity for a party.
The internet is completely siding with the Original Poster. She is definitely not the ahole in this situation. A wedding invitation is not a free pass to body shame your guests. If a bride is so insecure that she feels threatened by a medical condition she probably is not mature enough to get married in the first place.
