Introducing your partner to your parents is always a nerve wracking experience. You spend days cleaning your apartment, planning safe conversation topics, and praying nobody brings up politics at the dinner table. If your parents lean on the conservative side, the anxiety is usually ten times worse. But one guy on Reddit recently let his anxiety turn into controlling behavior, and his attempt to police his girlfriend completely backfired in the most hilarious way possible.
The Original Poster is a twenty-five-year-old guy who has been dating his twenty-two-year-old girlfriend for over a year. By his own admission, his girlfriend is incredibly artistic and completely covered in tattoos. She even has years of experience tattooing herself and her friends. He has always liked her alternative look, but he suddenly decided it was a problem when his conservative and traditional parents announced they were coming to visit.
Instead of trusting his partner to dress herself, the boyfriend went into full panic mode. He explicitly told his girlfriend to wear longer clothes to cover up her body art. Shockingly, a grown woman did not appreciate being told to hide her authentic self just to appease his parents. She flat out refused his ridiculous wardrobe demands.
On the day of the big visit, the girlfriend stayed true to herself. She wore a cute crop top and a pair of comfortable shorts, proudly showing off the majority of her tattoos. The boyfriend actually had the nerve to warn her one more time before his parents walked through the front door, but she confidently shrugged off his controlling comments.
The boyfriend braced himself for a massive family blowout. But the universe has a fantastic sense of humor. The absolute second his parents walked inside, they immediately started showering the girlfriend with compliments. His supposedly traditional mother was completely fascinated by the artwork. She spent ages talking to the girlfriend about all of her tattoos, leaving the boyfriend and his dad to awkwardly retreat to the backyard so the women could bond.
After giving them some space, the two men eventually walked back inside the house. That is when the mother excitedly rushed right up to her husband to show off her brand new ink. During that brief backyard exile, the girlfriend actually gave the mother a beautiful, delicate tattoo of four small flowers running up her arm. The mother proudly explained that the four flowers perfectly represented their family.
It was a genuinely wholesome and beautiful bonding moment between a mother and her potential future daughter-in-law. The dad absolutely loved the sweet design. The mother was absolutely thrilled and immediately started posting pictures of her new ink all over Facebook for her friends to see. Everyone was having a fantastic time, except for the incredibly insecure boyfriend.
When the girlfriend finally came downstairs, the boyfriend decided to absolutely ruin the vibe. Instead of being happy that his partner and his mother were getting along so well, he angrily confronted her. He looked his girlfriend in the face and demanded to know why she would dare put a tattoo on his mother without asking him for permission first.
The girlfriend had the only correct reaction to such a deeply stupid question. She literally laughed right in his face. She bluntly reminded him that his mother is a fully grown adult woman who is perfectly capable of making her own decisions about her own body. A twenty-five-year-old man does not hold legal jurisdiction over the skin of his adult mother.
Sensing that their son was acting like a total weirdo, both of the parents immediately took the girlfriend’s side. They defended the spontaneous tattoo session and shut down his ridiculous complaints. Unable to handle the fact that he was entirely in the wrong, the boyfriend threw a massive temper tantrum and stormed upstairs like a grumpy toddler.
He hid in his room and listened to his parents and his girlfriend happily hang out downstairs for hours until the visit finally ended.
