I saw a tiktok talking about the switch and the subsequent effects of farmers in Mexico switching to Robusca beans to sell to Nestle, how exactly did the 100% switch occur. The video simply says Nestle promised double the pay if the farmers switched, and googling the answers pops articles about what the effects are rather than how the switch occurred alongside articles from Nestle (I’m not trying to read propaganda).
How did Nestle go about convincing the farmers? Why did they not call BS? Was this a straight up rug pull or shortsightedness from the farmers that Nestle now exploits?

Robusta is easier and cheaper to grow than Arabica. It’s easier to lose more of your harvest with Arabica, so once that happens in a region it’s easy to make people switch.
Nestle : “we want to buy shit tons of coffee beans, but no arabica, just robusta”
Farmers : “deal”
