My husband just lost his job and we were already living close to paycheck to paycheck. His boss called him right before he left for work and said he’s letting him go. No warning, he’s never been in trouble/written up, he was a good employee… absolutely nothing to justify it, but there’s nothing we can do. This came out of nowhere. I can’t support us on my pay alone. Just the 3-4 weeks while he finds/starts a new job is going to be hell financially. We have several bills and both of our pets need to go to the vet.
And no, we do not live beyond our means nor do we have unnecessary bills like car paymemts; just wanted to add that before I hear that in the comments. Not looking for advice.
Also: my animals always have and always will get proper veterinary care. I just have pick and choose the priority bills right now and they are at the top of the list. So relax.

Deep breath. He should file for unemployment right away. You are not alone. You can do this.
Just keep going knowing that you will be okay in the end. Wishing you the best of luck.
Please surrender your animals
It’s okay, you’ve got this!!!
A lot of animal owners choose not to give their animals their injections; and a lot of them are more than happy and healthy for it!
You may be able to find some cheaper alternatives to a LOT in your life. Flea powder instead of expensive tablets for example!
If you’re normally on top of bills, you’d be surprised at how much slack they’re actually willing to cut while you’re struggling.
(Example of made up numbers: instead of $50 a week to the power, ask if you can do only $30 a week while you’re down to one income. Pay it back an extra $10 a week once hubby finds a job)
Sorry I typed this then remembered you’re just here to vent not get a frugal course!!
Don’t let others try get you down about your fur babies. They are your family and YOU decide what things you’ll sacrifice to feed them.
Things have a way of working out! Good luck!! You and your pets are gonna be fine! π
Whatever else you do stay away from “payday loans” or secure an advance with your car title. Those are a rabbit π π³οΈ hole of high interest rates and suffering.
If you need $$ please ask friends and family first.
Ask your veterinarian if you can make payments over time for your pets care. Most are willing to work with you.
Use the food bank when you need to. Contact your state’s welfare office. They can help you with SNAP and health insurance.
Turn off all your “extra” stuff such as streaming services.
If you have children in school, talk to the school about discounted lunches.
Before skipping your mortgage payment, contact the bank. They can delay the payment without destroying your credit.
Contact your credit card π³ company and ask them if they can help you with delaying payments and cutting your interest rate or removing late fees.
Be proactive. Don’t wait until you are in such a deep hole πΈπΈ before you call.
It took us over 2 years to dig ourselves out of debt when I lost my job unexpectedly.
I hope you make it through this challenge with the least amount of problems.
Any chance you can sell things you don’t want or need? One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Even garage shops can be a win.
Maybe you can find resources that can help you.
