When did you meet your best friends?

r/

I’m 17 and distanced myself from a few friends for reasons i won’t get into here, so am feeling a lot of loneliness. Hence the question.

I have good friends from my high school days, but I met my best friend when I was 35.

Early 20s. They are still around now when we are closing in on 50. I have no good friends from my teens

I’d say I’ve had multiple best friends at different times in life. People change, move on, etc.
I’m 31 now, the people closest to me I met when I was like 23.
I’m barely in touch with anyone from before that.

Best suggestion I have to help with that is to try and go do some social activities. Team sports, language classes, meet ups, etc. Just go in with the intent of meeting new people, some of them might turn into new friends.

I started taking mandarin lessons last year exactly because of that lol. Wanted to make new friends and thought going in and learning a language would be a fun way to do that. It’s been great!

Meet him through a mutual friend when I was about 27.

I had gone back to uni, he was thinking about it.

We ended up just hanging out a lot.

Eh, loneliness is a place we get to, I wouldn’t be concerned.

    One friend group until 11.

    One friend group until 16.

    One friend group until 23.

    One friend until 40.

    One friend group until 42.

    Started a family at 42.

Started new friend group at 52.

Largest, closest, most robust friend group ever at 61.

I’m no longer afraid to let people go, it seems like we only live life in parallel for a few years. Knowing this is a blessing, it enables me to make the most of my relationships.

First best friend at around 13 through high school. Then about 18 years later had a falling out. Current best friends are from opposite ends of my life. One is from childhood but always kept in touch. Became a lot closer as adults. My other best friend was in my early 30s.

You’re 17. Don’t worry about it. Friends will come and go. People go to jail and die and move and get married and disappear…. Just focus on yourself, your health and START PUTTING MONEY AWAY now. You’ll thank me in 30 yrs.

Grad school. Best friend I ever had.

He died of an accidental fentanyl overdose at 33, 4 years ago.

No one else even comes close, tbh. Feel very alone.
