Why did America riot for George Floyd but not for the dismantling of their democracy?

r/

I am an American (I know I worded the title weird, oops) who attended a Hands Off rally today and everyone was cheery and ringing bells and chanting. I’m very upset with the current state of things and this rubbed me the wrong way.

    Give it time.

The second requires a bit more intellectual firepower which most Americans lack. Too busy paying attention to the college basketball tournament. Sports and entertainment are the opioids of the masses. Floyd’s murder was captured on camera with full audio. Even a lower primate could figure out something was seriously wrong there let alone most average people.

    1. protests require momentum. What momentum is there when the US wanted him in? What momentum is there to build on when everyone is just waiting to see what he does? The fire is only beginning, it will grow

    2. who is being hurt by his antics? Who specifically? The wrongs he does are meant to controlled by rules, laws, tradition… it’s not meant to be for the people to stop him from making the wrong choices. The fire will grow

    3. Trumps made threats to use police like last time, or to enact state of emergency giving him greater powers, call upon the military, whatever. Like last time, protests will be met with force, so now the stakes are higher and protestors will have to do more to have a real impact

    4. speaking of impact, what was the outcome of the George Floyd protests?

DEI in any form, including minorities existing, is being targeted for erasure and removal.

What did the last protests actually achieve? Minor considerations on police funding?

What it did, is make it not as acceptable for the police narrative to boldly talk past its abuses of power… but only when they track that shit.

    Clearly, more needs to happen

The stakes need to be raised higher

Which requires more momentum and more commitment

That can take some time, some resources and some commitment. Undermine part of this is the clamp down on social media companies to toe the line, directly. They must pledge x millions, they must promote x ideas, they must moderate any x posts

They are doing it right now.

Because riots is a fast track to martial law, which is exactly what Trump wants. Peaceful protests in large form are happening and happened today across the country. See /r/50501

People are followers. They need to be lead. African Americans did protest police misconduct in the decade prior to Floyd. Sometimes it was large and sometimes it was smaller. Others joined in.

Floyd’s Murder was the tipping point with the movement (BLM) that caused mass action in such large numbers. People being cooped up from COVID lead then to want to get out. But they were laad mainly by BLM protesters and then it reached a large mass of people.

Overwhelming today young people didn’t come out to protest. It was millennials and older. There were more geriatric protesters than those in their early 20s.

It’s like dancing at a party. Somebody needs to do it and don’t consistently and people will follow.

It appears to me that as long as Americans have hamburgers and trinkets you can put weed in, they seem happy to let everything else slide these days.

If you tax people to the point they must work every waking hour just to pay the rent, they will have no time or energy to protest.

The system knows what to do with violence. That’s its bread and butter. It cannot easily deal with non violence when done creatively.

hmmm there’s no dismantlingnof democracy, only missinformation from the far left

    1. fraud waste and abuse is being slashed
2.Millions of illegal immigrants brought into the country are being deported
    2. Job are coming back
    3. trump won popular vote and all swing states
In short, these protests are just whiny white ppl that are not even 20% of the country

    Did Americans riot?

Or were the protests very heavily policed causing bottlenecks and anger and pressure.

And were they attended by white supremacist accelerationists, creating street level fights, leading to further pressure and instigation.

This day of protest was organized. With permits. Full of middle-class normies.

Things will heat up as the weather improves. There will be spontaneous protests. Police reaction. Hidden instigators.

    This is only the beginning.
