I saw this as a kid, probably in the early 2000s. My dad watched it, and I was a kid so he was probably clueless that I was paying attention. For context, he was into anime and had a PS2. So he played games like Final Fantasy and showed me things like Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Metropolis, Akira ( Though I don’t think I was supposed to watch the last two )- this could’ve been something similar in style or tone, but it definitely wasn’t any of those.
Here’s what I remember as clearly as I can:
• It was animated, possibly anime or anime-style, with an older 2D animation look.
• There was a young girl with long brown hair.
• She was trapped inside a big, translucent, pink-ish blob (or container or organism—could’ve been organic or sci-fi).
• The girl was whispering or softly speaking from inside it—like she was conscious but in a trance or unreachable.
• A man (maybe her father or a scientist) and others were panicking, trying to get to her or break her out.
• The setting was either a city street at night, but it had an eerie vibe – more surreal or sad.
• The blob or thing she was inside of was huge—bigger than a car or person—and the girl looked small and floating inside.
• The whole scene had a dreamlike, emotional, or horror tone.
It wasn’t Metropolis (I’ve rewatched that), but it had that kind of serious or surreal energy.
Could’ve been a movie, OVA, a cutscene from a PS2 game, or a short film—honestly not sure.
Please help! This has stuck in my head for years.
