Does anyone feel the NEED to always use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation? I feel like a weirdo for doing so

r/

I can’t seem to get myself over minor grammatical errors VIA TEXT, mostly. I feel like a weirdo because I shouldn’t be so affected by it. For example, I’d text “im good.” The ‘im’ should be ‘I’m,’ right? But it also should not fucking matter. I try to leave it that way but I’d get this itch and a feral need to change it to ‘I’m’. If I don’t change it and I just let that mistake be, I’d come back to it after a few minutes wishing I should’ve changed it earlier. And now there’s no opportunity to do so because the 15-min window to edit the text is gone.

Like wtf is wrong with me?
Is this normal?

I do that too but I’m not as cautious of it. I just flow with it and if it’s not too big a mistake for me to notice as I type it’s not getting changed

    Yes. It’s my job.

I make mistakes on Reddit from time to time because I’m typing on a phone and don’t always double check. But if I see a mistake then I fix it.

This is riddled with incorrect grammar.

Even in simple texts, I double check myself. It drives me crazy when I see posts with simple misspellings or missing commas or whatever.

If you are this worked up about it you obsess about editing your texts after sending them, you might want to look into OCD with a medical professional. You know this behavior is “abnormal” but you can’t seem to stop yourself from doing it without feeling bad about the mistakes.

There’s a huge range between 100% correct English and the most casual form of texting. You might just be more comfortable with something in between, though I don’t think the obssessiveness is very normal.

Lowkey sounds like you’re just insecure about people thinking you’re not smart

No you are fine, hold the line! Don’t let modern brain-rot culture destroy our ability to communicate effectively!

I’ve been like this. I think I do it to appear more respectable and polite, but it usually comes off as stiff and overly cautious instead.

I’ve been loosening up in a few places… Discord, text messages… but here on Reddit, I have all day to type something, so it’s not a big deal.

Almost every woman I’ve dated have thanked me for using correct grammar and punctuation while texting…..and more than one while using a dating site has said they won’t swipe on a guy with terrible grammar in a man’s profile. So feel like a wierdo while you’re dating smart women.

Yes. And all these posts with no capital letters hurt my head so much.
