As mentioned in previous posts, I am a TT professor, who feels under paid and extremely overworked. I have voiced my concerns and the department’s solution is to “reassign” me to a different position with more work. I have put feelers out and think I have a really good shot at another position outside academia.
Pros:
Pay is better
Closer to my wife’s family (we have an infant.)
Cost of living is cheaper.
Cons:
My PhD is wasted
Swing shift
We just bought a house last summer.
Am I a fool for considering giving up my TT position?

I don’t think you’re foolish to leave a TT position but swing shifts are brutal. Can you keep looking?
Academics is brutal. Get the tenure, then look for other jobs. That way you can have a safety net if you don’t find anything.
It should ease up once you’re tenured.
