Sugar, coffee, alcohol and sex. Id say sugar and alcohol are very underrated in how destructive they are on our bodies.. Alcohol is by statistics alone considered the worst drug to exist, it causes unprecedented destruction and havoc.
Coffee, food, or prescription meds. I’d say I’m addicted to my prescribed meds because without them I get withdrawals and I need it to function correctly.
But I also use pot.
Gambling has become so mainstream the last few decades, especially with all of the apps and the constant advertisements making it more accessible than ever.
Caffeine probably. It’s not only accepted but mostly encouraged. Most offices have some sort of coffee or soda machine around to get people thier fix. World wide, coffee tea and soda are very popular drinks.
Because it’s in everything and people only get real about it when they are told their cholesterol is a mess, or diabetes is in the mix.
It’s a fucking drug.
I once cut out ALL sugar, and almost all carbs for 5 days straight — first time ever – I leaned out within days – i ate a cookie on day 6 — took a bite – WOAH.
Coffee. We’re quick to blame people for being addicted to social media, phones, energy drinks, smoking, vaping, drinking etc but coffee is almost considered healthy a lot of times. And people rarely gets called out on it. Sugar addiction is also pretty tolerated.
Weed. First people say it’s not addictive, probably isn’t from a physical point, but I can’t tell you how many people simply can’t function without smoking in the morning, afternoon, or night. That’s an addiction imo. It may be mental, but it’s still an addiction.
Alcohol is up there. Id probably call it the most accepted destructive addiction. Ive seen more peoples lives destroyed from alcohol than anything else by very long ways.
As for the most accepted (mostly) non destructive addiction… either coffee or phone screens.
Phones, tablets, video games, Internet surfing. I have five screens up right now (three monitors, a tablet, and a phone) and as soon as work is over, it’s common to have a phone or tablet out while the tv is on. Weekends, dinner, and public outings are filled with electronic obsession and trying to have a turn off weekend is met with intense scorn, peadings for a hit, and sneaking off to get a fix that only an addict would truly understand.
I would say Alcohol still easily takes it considering how harmful it is. Heavy alcohol use is basically guaranteed early death. Can’t really say anything close to that for Coffee. And its still so easily accessible and accepted to the point where expanding access to alcohol is a popular political tool.
