Just to clarify, I’m not sick but my buddy is ALWAYS sick and he’s usually my gym buddy. I told him not to come today cause he looked rough. But he’s seriously always sick haha. It’s rough!
It’s inconsiderate to go anywhere other than a medical facility when you’re sick. Germs don’t only spread on surfaces, many are far more contagious by air.
It’s inconsiderate to go anywhere other than a medical facility when you’re sick. Germs don’t only spread on surfaces, many are far more contagious by air.
I think it depends. If you aren’t coughing and sneezing and are unlikely to transmit an illness to someone else, then I’d say there is probably little risk. If you just have really bad allergies one day I’d say go for it.
If you are sneezing, coughing, or throwing up then I think you should stay home and rest.
Yes. Staying home while you recover isn’t going to hurt you. If I’m sick, I’m barely going to enjoy other things I love doing. I can’t imagine putting on workout clothes, driving to a gym and working out for an hour while coughing, sneezing, and getting side-eyes from other people. If you’re that big of a gym rat then get some basic workout gear and do it at home.
Yes! It really is. They are already a breeding ground for all the germs.
Your friend needs to not go sick, get completely better before returning & maybe they won’t pick up as many sicknesses, it wont help if hes going when run down & immune system low, when he’s ill.
No. I don’t think so. Your friend can wipe things down and try to space himself from others. No different than grocery shopping or going to work, etc. If he’s not contagious. It’s fine. Ppl have a higher chance of contracting MRSA or ringworm at the gym than his cold. Which sounds like he has an autoimmune deficiency if he’s sick all the time. Working out and a balanced diet can work wonders. He needs to take in extra liquids and maybe pop a cough surprised before working out to soothe his throat if he’s constantly coughing
You’ll make others sick and think about how bad thar might end. They might end up losing their gains. Would you find it ok if other gym goers would randomly risk your gains for their own?
Yes. If you know you’re ill, don’t go to a place where you’ll spread it. Not only do you breathe faster, but others are breathing faster as they’re working out, too. Gyms are a breeding ground for airborne diseases
The short answer: yes, very.. it’s very inconsiderate
Why would you go to the gym, knowing you’re sick, and infect other people, you can wipe down and disinfect equipment all you want, it doesn’t change the fact that you can still potentially get multiple people sick
Yes, three weeks ago I had the flu. I didn’t go anywhere for a week. Even after I started feeling better I still stayed away and didn’t go out in public. I wanted to make sure I did not spread it. Do the same. People don’t want to get sick because you were inconsiderate
It’s definitely inconsiderate to be out doing unnecessary activities if you’re contagious or think you might be. If it’s something that’s not catching, you should still consider that working out might not be in your best interest.
Generally it’s considered inconsiderate to go anywhere while sick. Especially places where you’re in close proximity with other people, or sharing equipment.
Are you asking if a person who has a fever should be going anyplace and spreading their germs? No if you’re asking if a person who has a runny nose, a slight cough, itchy eyes if you’re looking at another person and you see him sniffling or sneezing, making the decision that they must be sick. It could just be allergies and with or without medication. They could still on a very bad day. Have symptoms that show. You cannot decide that because someone has a stuffy or runny nose and a little bit of a scratchy throat or cough that they’re sick. Truit could be symptoms that they are getting sick that they’ve been exposed to something, but it could also be allergies unless it’s pretty obvious they’re running a fever. I’m not sure you can make that choice and as someone else pointed out if the proper precautions on spacing and disinfecting equipment after use are enforced by the gym, it shouldn’t be a problem. If you think someone is ill and it bothers you then talk to the management and let them figure out if the person just has allergies or if they actually are ill
I’ve talked to several people that are older like I am and remember back when we were young and everybody got a spring cold and a fall cold and they said now everybody has allergies. It’s ridiculous. So many things are going on. It’s causing people to have allergies and I said the thing is I don’t think so. I think what it is comes down to medical science being able to test more accurately and find out that people have simple environmental allergies to pollen in the spring and coming inside in the fall and getting heat coming on and everything that’s in the heat duct pollen and dust and mold or mildew spores that’s blown back at them. End up with an allergy attack and it feels like a head cold, so I think that it’s not a case that more people have allergies. I think it’s a case of more people have become diagnosed with the allergies because medical science has improved
Yes! Quit spreading your germs.
Edit to remove mean language and to add that many germs are airborne so wiping down equipment does not help. Also, that we exhale pretty forcefully when we are working out strenuously so germs can travel further.
Yes. I have lung issues after covid. I can’t afford getting sick more. I’d love to exercise to fight against it and force my lungs to work better. But that could mean id catch something that would ruin my life further at the gym because there are a lot of inconsiderate people who go to the gym while sick
You also don’t get as much out of it as your body is busy healing and fighting the sickness and won’t be able to repair your muscles as well as when you’re healthy.
Yes. This is really what just helped me to decide to cancel my planet subscription. I’m on meds that make me have a weakened immune system so I guess I’ll just put together a home gym.
I was honestly conflicted, it’s a new life I guess I’ll just have to learn to get used to. I’m a fair bit bummed but it is what it is.
Absolutely-f’ing-lutely. Besides spreading contagion indoors under normal circumstances, the heavy, warm moist breathing by the infected person spewing out heavier amounts of their infection, not to mention the heavier breathing of the innocent victims taking in the infected air at a higher rate than normal breathing elevates it from inconsiderate to outright assholery.
Yes, even if you are courteous and try to wipe down the machines. You’re still breathing everywhere, your clothing, your car, etc can be contaminated. You’re putting strangers at risk to also get sick by doing something you don’t have to do at a gym. If you really gotta exercise do it at home.
There are these things called masks you can wear to prevent spreading your disease to everyone else. I’ve been doing that any time I’m out in public. “I have a cold. I’m wearing a mask so I don’t give it to you” is proper etiquette.
How is this a question? Of course it’s inconsiderate to go to the gym while sick, even if you wipe down the equipment.
Your illness may be airborne so no amount of wiping will help. Even if your illness isn’t airborne, you may still pass it on by not wiping things down thoroughly or inadvertently touching things that you don’t wipe down (doors, lockers, benches, etc).
Exercise wipes out your white blood cells abd it takes a few hours to replenish. Gym time and just after is when people are most prone to picking up infections.
Yes, you’re still breathing germy air in fairly close quarters. Colds, the flu, etc., are spread through the air, not just on surfaces. Give your body a break to heal, and don’t share that shit with everyone else at the gym around you
Not to the germs. They get to spread their progeny to so many other human carriers that will further spread to their contacts. Will no one think of the microorganisms!!!
Incredibly so. Everyone there is there because they’re trying to get more healthy, and there you go making everyone you bump into less healthy. Not cool at all.

Inconsiderate to go anywhere in public IMO. Sometimes it’s out of our control but….

Yes
YES, keep your germs to yourself. Same for work, parties, restaurants.
Please don’t do this, I’ve gotten sick multiple times from people coming into my gym sick. A couple days off will not take away all your gains.
Yes
Are you sick as the beginning stages of a cold/flu or last stages of some sniffles?

Absolutely. Very inconsiderate.

Yes. Workout at home. It’s not only inconsiderate it’s selfish.
It depends on what kind of sickness
Very inconsiderate
Yes, I am recovering from the gnarliest cold and I know I got it from the gym. The body aches made me feel like I was dying 💀⚰️
I think it depends. If you aren’t coughing and sneezing and are unlikely to transmit an illness to someone else, then I’d say there is probably little risk. If you just have really bad allergies one day I’d say go for it.

Yes. Very lol. I wouldn’t unless maybe I was 90% recovered
Yes. If you’re sick, stay home. You caught that illness from someone who was out and about while sick.
Yes! It really is. They are already a breeding ground for all the germs.
Your friend needs to not go sick, get completely better before returning & maybe they won’t pick up as many sicknesses, it wont help if hes going when run down & immune system low, when he’s ill.
Yes. I wouldn’t be happy if I got sick and somehow found out it could’ve been prevented had someone who was sick simply stayed home from the gym.
Yes.
We just came out of a global pandemic…
Yep. Those who are sick may consider going nowhere.
yes. stay home if you’re sick.
Lol of course it is. Stay home and don’t spread germs.
Duh….really had to ask this? Were you not born before the pandemic?
No. I don’t think so. Your friend can wipe things down and try to space himself from others. No different than grocery shopping or going to work, etc. If he’s not contagious. It’s fine. Yes.
It’s inconsiderate, along with detrimental to your bodies recovery.
Yes. If you know you’re ill, don’t go to a place where you’ll spread it. Not only do you breathe faster, but others are breathing faster as they’re working out, too. Gyms are a breeding ground for airborne diseases
This can’t be a real question
Especially if you are coughing or sneezing – yes.
Otherwise you could get away with a mask in my opinion.
Yup.
Lmfao yes????
Is COVID really so far away that we’ve forgotten the basic courtesies we used then?
Yes. On what planet would this be ok?

Yes. How is this even a question?

This is one of those questions where if you have to ask.. you already know the answer.

It’s also inconsiderate of your own body. It’s already working hard to try and deal with the sickness, let it rest 😐
It’s definitely inconsiderate to be out doing unnecessary activities if you’re contagious or think you might be. If it’s something that’s not catching, you should still consider that working out might not be in your best interest.
Yes. Many gyms still have Covid protocols in place and you may lose your gym membership privileges .

Yes, if your life isn’t on the line if you don’t leave your house, stay home
It’s inconsiderate to go anywhere in public when sick.
What kind of a question even is this? Yes, it’s highly inconsiderate. You’re still spreading your viruses via the air, which everyone else breathes.
yes. stay home if you are sick
YES!
Unless you have main character syndrome You already know the answer. C’mon now.
Yes! Quit spreading your germs.

Yes.
Keep your plague to yourself, pls & ty
Contagious sick, yes please try not to go anywhere.
Non contagious sick. Fine.
💯
If you know you’re contagious just stay home. If you’re not contagious and feel good enough to workout at the gym I think you’re fine.
Yes.
Yes. This is really what just helped me to decide to cancel my planet subscription. I’m on meds that make me have a weakened immune system so I guess I’ll just put together a home gym.

Yes
Did you learn nothing from covid?
Absolutely, yes it is.
I’d say so, you never know who may use it next and if getting sick could be horribly detrimental to their health. Not worth risking someone else
Sick as in infectious? Yes. Sick as in feeling unwell for reasons that aren’t contagious? No.
It’s inconsiderate to go anywhere sick (except the doctor, but wear a mask).
No.
Yes
This is so inconsiderate to do. Stay home.
The only place to go when you’re sick is the doctor or hospital. That’s it.
Yes
Yes it is.
Yes, even if you are courteous and try to wipe down the machines. You’re still breathing everywhere, your clothing, your car, etc can be contaminated. You’re putting strangers at risk to also get sick by doing something you don’t have to do at a gym. If you really gotta exercise do it at home.
Yes, you’re still spewing particles of ick when you breath
Absolutely
Extremely
Yes.
And if you’re sick, you need rest anyway. Stay home please.
YES it’s inconsiderate to go out anywhere really
Yes
Seriously wtf yes. Your body will heal faster without working out too. If you need exercise do body weight stuff at home or go do cardio outside.
Yep
YES. But in capitals.
What kind of sick?
If it’s airborne, do not go. Do not. DO NOT. I can’t say this enough.
If it’s something you can’t transmit? Or that you have to sleep with someone to give them? Sure. Go ahead if you feel okay.
But I assume you have a cold and are looking for permission and no, I do not give it.
Depends on what u mean by sick, if it’s something contagious yes
Yes dumbass
This could just have been one comment of “Yes” with 10k upvotes

Yes.
Um, yes?? It’s also stupid as you shouldn’t be exerting yourself while sick, you’ll slow down your recovery
Yes! Please dont
At minimum wear a mask
yes. i would stay home and rest while sick anyway
Of course
It’s inconsiderate to go any public place when you’re sick and possibly contagious.
WOW. SRSLY???
If you are sick, stay home. It’s pretty damn inconsiderate of people going out unnecessarily, leaving a trail of sickness everywhere they go.
Of course it is. Don’t be a bozo, you’re not the most important person in the world. You’re not even the most important person at your gym.
Is this a real question
Yes both towards others but also your body
I’m not even sure why this is a question?
You pay for the gym, it comes with risks
How is this a question? Of course it’s inconsiderate to go to the gym while sick, even if you wipe down the equipment.

Any public space really
Apparently people did not learn anything by enduring a global pandemic
Yes, stay home
Of course…🤨
Yes especially since you’ll be breathing and exhaling harder most likely, and others around will be doing the same as well.
Omg.
Yes, this should be obvious.
Of course it’s rude to go to the gym while you’re sick, wtf.
No. No is exactly what you should be telling yourself if you’re sick and think you should go to the gym.
YES!
Yes
YES
WTF with that question.
If you’re not gonna mask up then yes. But with it covering both your nose and your mouth. So many people forget about the nose part.
Of course it is.
Yes
It’s only inconsiderate if you lick the other patrons…
Yes. Inconsiderate of others and yourself. Let your body recover before stressing it out and don’t let others get sick from you
Of course it’s inconsiderate. If you’re sick, you stay home. Some things are unavoidable, but you should try your best to keep your germs to yourself.
Incredibly so. Everyone there is there because they’re trying to get more healthy, and there you go making everyone you bump into less healthy. Not cool at all.
Yes. YES.
Yes
If you’re contagious, then yes.
Stay home.
Yes. Just have a week off, and get better. This is how shit spreads.
DON’T GO SWEAT ALL OVER SHIT WHEN YOU’RE SICK.
Smh duh
Yes
Dude, don’t go anywhere public when sick. Some of us are autoimmune
Yes
Yes.
It is super inconsiderate to leave your house and go anywhere in public while sick.
The fact that we have just recently came out of a global pandemic and this is still a question boggles my fucking mind.
This belongs in /askstupidquestions
yes.
Really thought covid would have gotten this straight in people’s heads. Goddamn.
If one is sick with something contagious, yes!
