We Need a Proper form of Government Identification that isnt a little piece of paper we get at birth

r/

Social security cards are wayyy too easy to steal! Sure hide it, but all it takes is one person with ill-intent and you have to go through hell just to get your identity back. Your social security number should be placed onto all government identification and be made more secure. Hell even add a 2 step verification while you’re at it. Just SOMETHING to make it harder to steal someone’s identity god-forbid it ever comes to it.

I agree. Cum samples should be taken at birth. Cum is the only singly identifiable characteristic humans have.

2 step authentication already exists in a lot of places. You need your social + birth certificate or other forms of ID.

No, we need a government that trusts citizens to tell the truth and is competent enough to find those tiny few who abuse this trust and make them pay for their crimes.

The Brennan Center’s seminal report on this issue, The Truth About Voter Fraud, found that most reported incidents of voter fraud are actually traceable to other sources, such as clerical errors or bad data matching practices. The report reviewed elections that had been meticulously studied for voter fraud, and found incident rates between 0.0003 percent and 0.0025 percent. Given this tiny incident rate for voter impersonation fraud, it is more likely, the report noted, that an American “will be struck by lightning than that he will impersonate another voter at the polls.”

No kidding… but there is an historical problem with identity cards and the echo of the Germans in the Second World War and communist countries.

You may be far removed from this concept of check points every ten miles and 19 year old soldiers with machine guns checking your papers. But that is what the image identity cards drum up in those who have suffered the constant observation that some governments do.

Isn’t that what real ID was for

    Oh like a microchip?

Adding your SSN to all government identification would make it less secure….

Social security cards don’t have to be easy to steal. When you get one you can lock it away in your safe deposit box or bury it in your back yard. You only need to know your number except in the rarest of cases where you need to show it. I don’t believe I’ve ever shown my s/s card to anyone.

Putting your social on all your IDs would make it less secure.

And don’t you just love that right there on the card it says “not to be used as identification” but it is completely ignored by the same government that prints it??!

The social security card is the stupidest thing ever. This little piece of paper is supposed to last my lifetime without disintegrating yet if I laminate it, it becomes invalid.

We need tattoos on the back of our heads like Agent 47

I have a plastic one the government gave me. It has a barcode, and even lets my drive cars.

Gotta go get a new one every 5-10 years, but it’s still pretty cool imo.

Social security isn’t an identification card. It doesn’t prove who you are, it just proves the person with that name on it has that social security number. You’re not even supposed to carry it with you.

ID is what passports and state IDs (and now Real ID) are for.

Microchip implants and barcode tattoos, how about that. And compulsory DNA samples taken at birth. And placental blood put in cryogenic stasis for stem cell replacement. Is that enough?

    drivers license and passport

    You want a microchip?

  21. Distinct_Bill_1442 Avatar

Yeah let’s all get tattoos on our butts at birth!!

There will be a chip one day. It makes too much sense.

Putting your social security number in more places or on more things inadvertently makes it easier to steal and harder to secure. So I’d rather just stick with the paper one.

Parents can get children passports almost immediately after birth. Passports contain biometric data in the photos. They just have to be updated more often until adulthood because children grow and their bodies/faces change. You can also get a state ID from your state that’s not a drivers license. You can get that in all states in childhood onward. I believe all states today require Star ID standards that also include biometrics that uniquely identify you.

But stealing someone’s identity rarely comes from stealing someone’s ID card. Maybe their passport. People steal credit identities because they get ahold of your PII. Sometimes that may be your social. Sometimes that can be bank account numbers, often it’s also log in information to your banking/financial institutions. These are more often 2-factor authenticated now. But the state isn’t responsible for securing your connection to your bank.
