Ok, I know you probably want my head for this, but I have tried to like perogies, and have tried them on many occasions. Every time I find them kinda bland with a mushy texture. Everyone I meet tell me I’m crazy but I just don’t like em! Maybe if I tried authentic homemade perogies instead of the store bought ones I would feel different, but everyone also likes the store bought ones so I think I just don’t like them at all.

I forgive you.
Should have some crisp on the outside.
But it is carb on fat on carb. Which is delicious but about as balanced as a grilled cheese sandwich with potato chips
Ok
I mean you don’t have to. I like pickles and mushrooms on my burger at the same time. Food preference superiority is kinda stupid. If you can choose your food you already have a lot of privilege.
I’m reluctantly giving you my upvote even though I’m pretty sure disliking perogies is a federal crime.
Try homemade deep fried then see if you still think they’re gross.
Did you get them at a polish or Russian store or the regular grocery store? I don’t care for whatever is in grocery stores but the polish brands are good and have so many types of fillings to try.
They’re just starch. Take that as a win and move on to hating something like kale.
Need to fry them a bit and have them with sour cream and onions
Plain, unseasoned, boiled pierogies are a crime against potato dumplings.
Pan fried is the way to go.
I like to sauté some onions with them and add some lemon pepper. You can also add some red pepper flakes.
You can make them different ways. Lots of people will fry them in butter with onions. But they’re also good air fried with ketchup… at least the Mrs. T’s ones you buy in a box.
Growing up in PA we’d have them once a week. There used to be a restaurant that made fresh handmade polish food. There were pierogies were the best.
What is wrong with you??? Also the best ones come from church ladies 😉
Of all the options in the dumpling family, peroxide are my least favorite. Midwest blandness at its finest. (What’s that spicy flavor? Salt, Edna. It’s salt.)
I find dumplings simply far superior. I’ve tried and tried with perogies but always regret it. I agree, downvote
Perogies from the old milk bars in Poland were amazing when I was there…..but perogies are good anyways.
Different tastes for everyone..
Don’t rule them out:
Boiled
Pan fried after boiled
Or, kind of used to this abomination now- deep fried.
Polish family in a Ukrainian town. What can I say?
Weird. I love pierogi. I think even the ones bought from Dino are good.
That’s like saying you don’t like Italian food because you don’t like Olive Garden
I can totally see it!
And as someone who grew up on home made, the store bought are ok but not really that great so you’re not wrong for disliking them. Also if you don’t pan fry them after you boil them then I would try that and it may make them more palatable
Been eating them for years and they’ve always been…ok. but last week I made a heavy hamburger gravy with a bag of diced frozen veggies added a couple cans of cream of mushroom soup, Montreal steak spice, dark soy sauce, a packet of beef gravy powder, poured over boiled bacon perogies and it became a family favorite cost like $15 for six big servings
I’ll give a trick if you find them too mushy : first boil for the appropriate time, then get a pan out with olive oil, heat it up, put some sliced onions in it for a few minutes. Then throw the perogies in. Pan fry a couple minutes, then throw in some soy sauce (not too much), flip them around, until they have a little bit of a golden crust. You can optionally put in some sliced green onions. Serve
I am Polish and this is the way I usually have them at home, regardless of the filling. The other ways are great too I have those with family or from my local spot
Being from Cleveland this post saddens me 😭
They’re not “gross”, but there’s nothing healthy about them aside from the butter and sour cream. They’re just pointless carbs and empty calories. Great for over-eaters and over-indulgence. Terrible for your waistline.
I am Ukrainian and my grandmother made the absolute best homemade ones in the 90s. I can still taste them. As an adult? I don’t need that stuff. I’d eat maybe 3 now in one sitting, given the opportunity. I prioritize my figure.
“Pierogi” is already plural. “Pieróg” is a single piece. “Pierogis” is nonsense.
What is a perogie
Agreed. Perogis have always disappointed. I’d rather just get ravioli if I want stuffed pasta. Or dumplings.
