You’re not obligated to like every person you meet

r/

It feels as though we are gently assimilated into “liking” one another. This happens from a young age. Be it at school, in sports, at work, at family and social gatherings, what have you. The key is NOT to treat others poorly, of course. Show some decency and common sense!

But it’s okay not to like everybody, even if you have a reason that others might not agree upon or accept. You have the right to dislike someone.

I don’t think this is particularly unpopular(?)

This isn’t unpopular. You described the actual popular opinion in your post, “it’s okay to dislike someone, but don’t treat them poorly.” (Obviously barring extreme examples where treating someone poorly is deserved, based on why you dislike them.)

I dislike the vast majority of people I meet. I still treat them like human beings. Are you thinking of golden retrievers?
