Persons with a very focused/disciplined life, what do you do with your spare time and money?

r/

So this question is specifically for persons whose job either has long hours (50, 60 or more) or demands constant attention that one cannot let their mind wander away.

On my side: 38,5 hrs/week in a laboratory, never met a real emergency that needed me to be here the full day, so I can always take a mini pause and go on reddit for example. I have a lot of different hobbies so I’m no master at any of them, sometimes to my frustration. In a nutshell, even though 38,5 hours a week might seem privileged, I still feel like I should have more free time to explore my different hobbies and to do maintenance of my body and apartment, etc.

So yeah… If you are in a professionally demanding job or industry and free time is missing, what do you do to wind off and to feel good about yourself. What are your hobboes, what are your routines at home…. I’m curious to know how people put up with their work schedules. Cheers!

When I was in the military,

My spare time on base? No such thing. I always had soldiers with issues that needed to be addressed.
Money? A minimum wage worker’s monthly salary was 5-6 times higher than mine.

When I was going home, I’d be with family, friends, my significant other, when I was single I’d go on dates or just hit on women, I was drinking sometimes.

In my first role in tech I worked 240~ monthly hours.
My spare time was divded for studying for my degree, working out and time with my significant other.

I would spend money mostly on bills, car, date nights, and twice a year on vacations.
