I have a feeling that this is a hand grenade, but I went to Texas, almost exclusively to try their food. Now what Texas does have going for it is Mexican food / Tex-mex. Best I’ve ever had, but I tried brisket and ribs at a restaurant that had earned a James beard award (meaning it’s definitely a highly regarded chef making the food) and while it was really good, it did not blow me away and North Carolina bbq is infinitely better, in my opinion.

From Texas. If you said mexican food, we would have fought.
I’ll let the BBQ thing slide… even though you’re from NC 🤨
I’ve been making this argument for years. I’ll also add that NC BBQ is better than Memphis or Kansas City. I find the vinegar really ups the sauce. If you like that style, try Food Lion store brand hot sauce. It’s got more of a vinegar flavor as well, and is much better than Texas Pete in my opinion.
Dang, now I need to grab a pork shoulder for the weekend. Drooling at 3 am on the east coast.
