I (20M) have been using creatine as part of my fitness regimen and store it in my bedroom to prevent issues like ant infestations, which have been a problem in other areas of our house. My younger brother (11M) has recently developed an interest in bodybuilding. While I was out, he entered my room without permission, opened the creatine container, and spilled a significant amount on the floor. Instead of cleaning it up, he left the mess as it was.
Upon returning home, I was confronted by our mother (42), who was upset about the state of my room. She claimed to have cleaned it earlier in the day and hadn’t noticed any mess at that time. Despite explaining that I wasn’t home during the incident and that my brother had caused the spill, she insisted that I was responsible, stating, “It’s not your brother’s fault; it’s yours.” I even showed her a photo I had taken that morning, which clearly displayed my room in a tidy state with the creatine container sealed. However, she dismissed this evidence.
During our discussion, she asked me questions like, “Why was the creatine in your room?” and “Did you leave it open?” I answered her calmly, attempting to clarify the situation, but she accused me of being disrespectful and talking back. This left me feeling frustrated and unheard.
Given these circumstances, I wonder: AITA for storing my creatine in my room to prevent ant issues, which inadvertently led to my brother spilling it and my mother blaming me?

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole:
> I might be the asshole because, while I had valid reasons for storing my creatine in my room to prevent ant infestations, I may not have considered that it could cause an issue in the first place. My brother wasn’t supposed to be in my room, but I could have done a better job of keeping the creatine somewhere more secure or talking to him about not touching my things. Additionally, I may have unintentionally escalated things by showing frustration with my mom instead of trying to resolve it more calmly. While I feel unfairly blamed, I can see how my actions might have contributed to the situation.

You’re not an ahole, just someone learning that your brother likes to sticky finger where he shouldn’t be, and possibly your Mum sees him as the golden child who’s blameless. Probably store it out of his reach going forward?
NTA
NTA. lock your door going forward, though, who knows what else your brother gets in to when you’re not around.
NTA get a lock on your door and tell your brother that he isn’t allowed in anymore since he can’t even clean a mess he made. Yes he is a dumb kid but now is the moment for him to learn boundaries and clearly your mother isn’t gonna teach him those.
In what universe would you be TA for something like that??
I mean, come on, have some common sense, obviously you’re NTA.
Your mom on the other hand… yikes… She reaaally needs a reality check
NTA. Also, you’re 20. You are entitled to privacy and the expectation that no one goes into your room without your permission
