if I hold it for 1 minute according to instruction came with label, it burns like hell and my tongue so painful I need to wash it, my mouth filled with white foam. after I spit it out I would continue to spit for few times to clear my throat.
how effective is the mouth wash if I only keep it for 30 seconds? or even 20?

Just do what you can. It’s fine. Dont torture yourself.
What kind of mouthwash are you using? If it burns it probably has a considerable amount of alcohol in it. I recommend switching to just normal fluoride mouthwash, won’t burn. Alcohol is actually bad for mouth health. Crazy they still sell that junk
Edit: I guess I’ll supply receipts for the doubters lol
>alcohol not only destroys harmful bacteria but good bacteria as well. Meaning, unless we are regularly using mouthwash, a lot of opportunities for bad breath will build up, generally, because of bacteria imbalance occurrence. However, alcohol-free mouthwash targets bad bacteria rather than good, and hence, creates an optimum balance of bacteria to avoid further complications and combat bad breathing problems.

>An oral rinse that contains fluoride may actually be recommended if you have dry mouth, according to the American Dental Association. However, a mouthwash that contains alcohol may actually make symptoms of dry mouth worse.

You don’t need mouthwash for any amount of time. It doesn’t really do anything beneficial.
Unless it’s some special dentist-perscribed mouthwash, you probably shouldn’t be using it at all.
dentists do not recommend using mouthwash. It does nothing to help your teeth – it just makes your breath smell fresh.
other than the ones with added fluoride, you dont need to keep it in your mouth. it just makes your breath fresher, everything else is just marketing
Mouthwash has little actual value.
No
Don’t use mouthwash. Just clean your teeth and mouth with toothpaste and floss and a tongue scraper. Mouthwash is a scam
Why are all the comments warning against mouthwash downvoted? They are right. Alcoholic mouthwash is unhealthy, all it takes is a quick web search to find this out.
The Oral B zero alcohol I have here says to gargle it for 20 seconds only.
Maybe you just don’t like mint?
Mint, especially the kind that will coat the insides of my mouth, causes a burning sensation in my mouth and I’ve had to resort to mouthwash and toothpaste marketed towards children.
I spent so many years of having to endure the pain, thinking it was just part of the cleaning process, only to learn that it wasn’t even supposed to hurt at all! I hate how the flavor for nearly every single dental product is just some variation of mint.
The techs at my dentist’s office say to just swish for as long as I can stand and that it’s also okay to rinse with water afterward if it is too intense.
Use a non-alcoholic mouthwash
I use non alcohol mouthwash with fluoride. My wife, however, loves the burning mouth wash and treats it like a flex. Which, fine, she can have that. I’ll be over here with my non-painful mouthwash.
How much are you using? It shouldn’t be so much that it fills your mouth and/or goes into your throat.
I use children’s mouthwash for exactly this reason.
Basically they use the same active ingredients but they come in awesome fun flavors and leave me happy when I’m done.
I have a cinnamon flavored toothpaste and a watermelon fluoride.
Sister is an oral hygienist. She recommends not using mouthwash at all. Only use a salt water wash if you have an infection. She recommends flossing daily, brushing morning and night, and chewing sugar free gum during the day (where possible). Gum chewing releases saliva, which is good for tooth and gum hygiene. Mouthwash can actually be harmful.
IIRC mouthwash dries you mouth, which then ends up being a breeding ground for bacteria and makes your breath smell worse.
I can’t even use the no pain, alcohol free mouthwash as it hurts. I’ve moved to kids mouthwash and I love it. Sting free swishing for as long as I want.
It could be the whitening ingredient. I was always irritated when I used that kind of mouthwash. Switched to alcohol free flouride mouthwash and can swish that around all day.
Embrace the pain. The hurt feels pretty good once you’re used to it
Just floss, rinse with water like it’s mouthwash, and then brush.
Your toothpaste and mouthwash both contain fluoride, you don’t need mouthwash.
Only thing you don’t want to do is rinse after brushing because then you remove your toothpastes fluoride.
I never saw the point. It’s a good astringent if you have an open wound or infection. Otherwise forgetaboutit.
Thank you for reminding me of the dental hygiene step that I mysteriously forget these past three days, completely failed to remember I had to use mouthwash as well.
You definitely do. No one else does.
