“That show is amazing! You just have to get through the first few sucky episodes” is not a winning argument to get someone to watch a new show

r/

“Oh yea it’s a great show! The first season sucks and is super boring so you’ll have to sit through all of that, season 2 is also kinda boring because it sets up stuff for seasons 3 and 4 which are the only actual good seasons, and then the show runners kinda fucked up the last couple seasons……but other than it’s great!”

Maybe, JUST maybe…….your “amazing” show isn’t all that amazing…..

There isnt a single show with a super long runtime that doesn’t have a bad spot… and you are lying if you say there is.

Every show I think is amazing has at least one terrible episode. Sometimes, it’s the first. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t get good or isn’t great.

    The Wire.

I’ve heard it’s one of The Greatest Shows Of All Time, but haven’t been able to get through Season 1

I just show people some quality episodes, preferably not TOO spoilery, and if they enjoy the vibe they can invest as much time as they want into watching whatever portion of it they feel like

I’ve seen very few shows where every moment is essential, tbh; if season 1 sucks then tell your friends to skip it. I’ve actually never seen a show where they don’t hold your hand with episode recaps and characters basically stating everything relevant to the plotline through exposition dumps

Star Trek certainly isn’t for everyone and is notorious for each series taking a season or two to really hit its stride. But once they do it’s glorious.

Any show that interests me enough to start gets 5 episodes to hook me. I’m not sitting through an entire season of ‘meh’ or worse just to be able to appreciate “the good season” down the line. There is just so much fantastic content out there right now.

Walking dead fans were always like “just give it 3-4 seasons then it gets good”

This isn’t really supposed to be an argument, more like a little something to be mindful of.

I love The Sopranos but the first few seasons have a bunch of filler episodes that barely amount to anything. Still an amazing show, because these episodes didn’t really affect its greater impact but still something to keep in mind when you get around to S1E10 “A Hit Is A Hit” or S2E7 “D-Girl”
