Eeveelutions are just colorful puppies with type stickers slapped on. Other generic animal Pokemons exist, but none are as overhyped as they are. Eeveelutions dominate fanarts, polls, and merch lines. I don’t get why.
Unlike Pikachu, they’ve never shown any real personality in the franchise, no memorable moments, yet they’ve been (blandly) pushed so hard by marketing. Even unevolved Eevee is overexposed. Just to name a few, there’s Let’s go Eevee! paired with Pikachu, it has its own theme song, it’s the first clerk you get in Pokemon Cafe Remix, and there’s even a full Eevee team challenge in Pokemon Unite.
Honestly, they really don’t deserve all that popularity.

This is the first time I’ve ever even heard of this.
Idk if I disagree about them being overhyped, but I like pokemon that evolve based on the trainer’s actions. It adds some tangibility to the concept of forming bonds with your pokemon, which is a huge part of the appeal of the franchise for me. Especially as a child with more capacity to immerse myself in a game, I really enjoyed anything that allowed me to pretend the pixels loved me, haha.
They aren’t popular because they’re pushed, they’re pushed because they’re popular. It’d be pretty stupid to not understand why.

What makes something deserving of popularity
i’m upvoting because this is just so wrong. eevee has been a front page pokemon since gen 1. it was a pivotal point in the anime for why ash never evolves his pikachu when mikey single-handedly defeats team rocket with his eevee that he doesn’t want to evolve like his older brothers did.
eevee has also been in the video games in interesting and important ways since gen 1. you can only get it from an npc interaction which adds a layer of appeal to the pokémon. in gen 2 you fight the kimono girls who each have a different eeveelution. etc
even in other media outside the main series and the games, eevee has been a super prominent front page pokémon since day 1 practically.
also there’s a reason it has its own game too. because it’s deserved.
