Divorce rates rising in previously more traditional countries like China and Korea is a good thing

r/

I hear people often talk about how the rising divorce rates in more historically traditional countries is a proof of best western influence, but I would argue it’s a sign of people leaving unhealthy marriages.

Divorce rates weren’t low because people had healthier stronger marriages back then. They were higher because people stayed in unhealthy, even abusive relationships simply because they felt like leaving wasn’t an option

Pretty sure best western doesn’t have much to do with divorces anywhere

Whats happening isn’t “theres widespread abuse and now people are allowed to leave”. The active mechanic is “people are allowed to leave”. If people can end a contract whenever they want , less people will be staying in contractural agreements. Thats it. Its not some progressive movement-its forever isn’t forever anymore.
