How to split fuel cost?

r/

So I recently went on a car trip with friends and I am confused as to how to calculate the amount I spent on fuel during the trip, that I can split between my friends.
So the night before the trip, I had an unknown amount of fuel in my tank. However, before the trip started, I paid 4000rs and did a full tank.

Somewhere in the middle of the trip, I filled it up a bit again (not full) and this time paid 2200rs.

At the end, after coming back home, I did a full tank again and paid 2300rs.

How much did we spend for the trip and how much should I ask my friends?

We started with full tank and ended with full tank, but do I add 4000 + 2200 + 2300 or only 2200 + 2300?

The initial 4000 you filled was a result of your own driving.

Money split should only be whatever gas was used during the drive. Just save all receipts and divide.

    2200rs plus 2300rs = 4500

To be really fair to the car’s owner, it should not only be the gas cost but the car usage which includes insurances, repairs, acquisition etc… this is how companies pay for their employees using their personnal cars. At least here in Canada.

It’s paid “per kilometer”. It changes from time to time to reflect gas price and inflation. My employer currently pays 64 cents (Canadian) per km.

When I claim I simply use Google Maps to see how many km I drove, nevermind the small detours for snacks, gas or other reasons.

You shouldn’t include the initial 4000 because that was for driving you had done before the trip. So, divide 4500 by the number of people that were in the car.

Add 2200rs and 2300rs for a total of 4500rs that should be split however many ways.
