why do some people deny any abuse story?

r/

I mostly see this in yt, but sometimes in comments there will be someone talking about abuse they experienced and all. then someone will reply, accusing them of lying or actually being the bad guy in the story. it never makes sense to me cus i dont see the point of lying in yt comments

    First mistake: reading YouTube comments.

People lie on the internet and they do so often. Being on a specific platform does not add authenticity to someone’s claim. Plus you have certain incentives for telling a compelling story in the form of both engagement and upvotes. The simple answer to why they do this is clout. Even Reddit is guilty of this with their karma system. A lot of people have also been on the wrong end of a false accusation and faced banishment from the interwebs (such as ProJared), and incidents like that have made people very cynical towards a lot of claims made online.

Cause they were taught not to believe the victim if shes a woman. It was wild to see so many on reddit deny that Amber Heard was abused by Johnny Depp. Even though Johnny has had a history of being a hot head and being physically or verbally abusive.
